QR Scanner+ ("the app," "we," "our," or "us") is a mobile application for scanning and generating QR codes and barcodes. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app processes, how that information is used, where it is stored, and which third-party services are involved.
This policy reflects the behavior of the app as implemented in the current codebase (version 1.4.1).
SUMMARY
QR Scanner+ lets you scan QR codes with your camera or from images you select, generate QR codes and barcodes from text you enter, save or share generated codes, optionally keep a local history, and take actions on scanned content (such as opening links or connecting to Wi-Fi).
The app does not require account creation and does not sync your data to a user account or cloud storage operated by us.
On Android, the app uses Firebase Analytics, Firebase Remote Config, and Google Mobile Ads (AdMob). Firebase services are initialized on Android only.
INFORMATION WE PROCESS
1. QR, Barcode, and User-Entered Content
When you scan a code or create one, the app processes the content on your device. Depending on what you scan or enter, this may include:
- Plain text
- Website URLs
- Wi-Fi credentials (network name, password, encryption type)
- Contact information (vCard format)
- Email addresses, phone numbers, and SMS content
- Payment links (such as UPI)
- Map links (such as Google Maps)
- Barcode data (EAN-8, EAN-13, UPC-A, UPC-E, Code 39, Code 93)
- Clipboard text, if you choose the Clipboard QR type
We do not upload the raw content of your scans or generated codes to our servers. Scan and creation content is processed locally unless you explicitly share it through your device's share sheet or another action you initiate.
2. Scan and Creation History
If Scan History is enabled in Settings (enabled by default), the app stores scanned and created items locally in an on-device SQLite database (MyQr.db). Each entry includes the QR/barcode text content, a timestamp, and whether the item was scanned or created.
This history is used only to display your recent items inside the app. You can disable history, delete individual entries, or clear all history from Settings.
3. Clipboard Data
If you select the Clipboard QR type when generating a code, the app reads plain-text content currently on your clipboard to prefill the input field. This happens only when you open that specific flow.
4. Images You Select
The app may process images you choose from your device:
- Scan from Image: to detect QR codes in a gallery photo
- QR customization: to embed an optional logo in a generated QR code (images are resized locally; the file path is stored only in memory during your session)
Selected images are not uploaded to our servers.
5. Saved and Shared QR Images
If you save a generated QR code, the app writes the image to your device gallery. If you share a code, the app passes the image through your device's system share sheet to apps you choose. We do not control what third-party apps do with shared content.
6. App Preferences
The app stores the following settings locally on your device:
- Dark mode preference
- Scan history enabled/disabled
- Haptic feedback enabled/disabled
- Auto-save preference
These preferences are not transmitted to us.
7. URL Security Checks
When a scanned result contains a URL and your device has an internet connection, the app may perform optional on-device checks such as DNS lookup for the URL's domain and HTTPS/SSL certificate validation.
These checks contact the relevant domain over the network from your device. They are used to show connectivity and security information in the scan result screen. We do not receive the results of these checks on our own servers.
8. App Usage and Analytics Data (Android only)
On Android, the app uses Firebase Analytics to understand how features are used and to improve the app. Analytics events may include:
- Screen views and tab selections (Scanner, Generator, History, Settings)
- Scanner actions (e.g., open gallery, open settings, image selected)
- Scan success events with result type (e.g., URL, Wi-Fi, text) and source (camera or image), not the raw scanned text
- QR generator type selected
- QR output actions (save, share) with QR type and whether customization was used
- Scan result actions (e.g., copy, open link, connect Wi-Fi) with result type
- Settings changes (setting name and value, such as dark mode or history toggle)
- History actions (view, delete, clear)
- Ad-related events (e.g., interstitial ad requested)
Analytics collection is enabled when Firebase is available on Android. We do not use analytics to collect the full text content of your scans or generated codes.
9. Remote Configuration Data (Android only)
On Android, the app uses Firebase Remote Config to fetch configuration values from Google, including whether advertisements should be displayed. This involves a network request to Google's Firebase service.
10. Advertising Data
The app uses Google Mobile Ads (AdMob) to display banner and interstitial ads when enabled by Remote Config. AdMob and its partners may collect and process device identifiers, advertising IDs, IP address, app interactions, and other data according to Google's policies and your device or Google ad settings.
Ad display can be turned off remotely via Firebase Remote Config; when ads are disabled, ad requests are not shown in the app UI.
11. Diagnostic and Technical Data
If Firebase, AdMob, or Android platform services encounter errors, they may process technical information such as device model, operating system version, app version, timestamps, IP address, and crash or diagnostic events according to their own policies. The app does not include a dedicated Firebase Crashlytics SDK in the current version.
HOW WE USE INFORMATION
We use processed information to:
- Scan QR codes and barcodes using your camera or selected images
- Generate QR codes and barcodes from your input
- Save generated QR images to your device
- Store optional local scan and creation history
- Open links, maps, payment intents, and other actions you choose from scan results
- Connect to Wi-Fi networks when you explicitly tap Connect Wi-Fi on a Wi-Fi QR result
- Remember your theme, haptic, history, and auto-save preferences
- Measure feature usage and improve app quality (Android analytics)
- Control whether ads are shown (Android Remote Config)
- Display advertisements when enabled
WHERE DATA IS STORED
On your device only:
- Scan and creation history (local SQLite database)
- App preferences (SharedPreferences)
- Generated QR images you save (device gallery)
- Clipboard text during the Clipboard QR flow (read in memory, not stored by us)
- Selected gallery images (processed locally, not uploaded by us)
Processed by third parties:
- Analytics, Remote Config, and ad data (Google/Firebase/AdMob per their policies)
THIRD-PARTY SERVICES
The app integrates the following third-party services:
Firebase Analytics - Usage analytics (Android)
Firebase Remote Config - Feature flags such as show ads (Android)
Google Mobile Ads (AdMob) - Banner and interstitial ads (Android, when enabled)
Google Play services - Platform and ad support (Android)
These providers process data under their own privacy policies:

When you share content, open external links, or use payment or map intents, third-party apps and websites you interact with have their own privacy practices.
PERMISSIONS AND DEVICE ACCESS
Depending on the features you use, the app may request or use:
Camera - Scan QR codes in real time
Photos or media (user-selected) - Scan QR codes from gallery images; pick an optional logo for QR customization
Clipboard - Prefill text when you choose the Clipboard QR type
Wi-Fi state and Wi-Fi control - Read Wi-Fi status and connect when you choose to connect from a Wi-Fi QR result
Internet and network - Firebase, ads, opening links, URL security checks, and related functionality
The app also provides an optional Quick Settings tile on Android to open the scanner. This tile does not collect additional personal data.
DATA SHARING
We do not sell your personal data.
We do not operate backend servers that receive your scan history or generated QR content.
Limited technical, analytics, advertising, and configuration data may be processed by Google (Firebase and AdMob) on Android to provide those services. Data in your local history database remains on your device unless you delete it, clear history, or uninstall the app.
If you use Share, content is shared only with the apps you select through your device's share sheet.
DATA RETENTION
On-device data (history, preferences, saved images) remains until you delete individual history entries, tap Clear History in Settings, uninstall the app, or remove app data through your device settings.
Third-party data (analytics, ads, Remote Config) is retained according to Google's and AdMob's retention policies and your Google or device privacy settings.
YOUR CHOICES AND RIGHTS
You can:
- Disable scan history in Settings
- Clear all history in Settings
- Turn off haptic feedback in Settings
- Avoid the Clipboard QR flow if you do not want clipboard text read
- Avoid Scan from Image if you do not want gallery images processed
- Decline camera permission (scanning with the camera will not work, but other features may still be available)
- Manage ads through your device's advertising ID settings and Google ad personalization settings where available
- Limit analytics through your device or Google account privacy controls where applicable
Depending on your location, you may have additional rights regarding personal data (such as access, correction, deletion, or objection). Because we do not maintain user accounts or receive your scan content on our servers, most data is under your direct control on your device. For data processed by Google services, refer to Google's privacy tools and policies.
CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
QR Scanner+ is not directed at children under 13 (or the applicable age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, contact us using the details below.
INTERNATIONAL USERS
Firebase and AdMob are operated by Google and may process data in countries other than your own, including the United States, in accordance with Google's data processing terms and safeguards.
SECURITY
We rely on your device's operating system to protect locally stored data. Network communications with Firebase and AdMob use industry-standard protections provided by those platforms. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure.
CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date at the top of this document. Continued use of the app after an update means you accept the revised policy. For material changes, we may provide additional notice in the app or on our distribution listing where required.
