QuietMute Privacy Policy

This policy explains how QuietMute for Instagram (“QuietMute,” “we,” or “the extension”) handles information when you use the QuietMute Chrome extension.

Information QuietMute handles

When you agree to the in-extension disclosure and use QuietMute, it may handle:

• Instagram usernames and numeric account IDs for accounts you follow or add manually;

• the Posts and Stories mute states that QuietMute checks on Instagram;

• your selected accounts and content, and the actions you ask QuietMute to perform;

• scan and action progress, free-action counters, language and consent preferences; and

• ExtensionPay plan or subscription status needed to enable premium features.

How QuietMute uses Instagram

QuietMute uses your existing signed-in Instagram browser session to retrieve the accounts you follow and, when you enable the optional check, inspect their mute states. It reads the Instagram ds_user_id cookie to identify the numeric account ID needed for the list request. QuietMute does not read your password or Instagram authentication cookies such as sessionid. When you choose to mute or unmute accounts, QuietMute interacts with Instagram’s visible controls for the selected accounts and content.

Instagram receives the requests needed to provide these features. Instagram’s handling of information is governed by its own privacy policy and terms.

Storage on your device

Your account list, mute states, selections, progress, usage counters, language preference, consent status, and locally cached plan information are stored in Chrome on your device. QuietMute does not send your Following list, usernames, mute states, or run progress to a QuietMute-operated server. The extension does not use this information for advertising, profiling, or unrelated purposes.

You can remove QuietMute’s locally stored extension data by uninstalling the extension or clearing its stored data through Chrome’s extension settings.

Payments and third-party services

If you choose a paid plan, QuietMute contacts ExtensionPay to check plan availability and verify your entitlement. Checkout takes place through ExtensionPay and Stripe. ExtensionPay may collect your email address and Stripe processes payment details. QuietMute does not receive or store your complete payment card number. Sharing and sale

We do not sell user data. QuietMute shares information only with the services required for the feature you choose: Instagram to retrieve or change Instagram mute settings, and ExtensionPay/Stripe for plan verification and payment processing. QuietMute does not transfer user data for purposes unrelated to its single purpose or for creditworthiness or lending decisions.

Security and retention

QuietMute keeps its account list and mute information in Chrome’s local extension storage and does not operate a QuietMute server that stores this information. Data sent to Instagram, ExtensionPay, or Stripe is transmitted to those services to provide the requested feature or payment flow. Each service is responsible for its own security and retention practices under its policies.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy if QuietMute’s features or data practices change. The latest version will be published on this page with an updated effective date.
