What Causes QuickBooks Error H202?
Several issues can lead to Error H202, including:
The workstation cannot communicate with the host computer.
QuickBooks Database Server Manager is not configured correctly.
Firewall settings are blocking QuickBooks connections.
The company file is not being hosted correctly.
Network configuration problems are preventing multi-user access.
QuickBooks File Doctor identifies a network or company-file issue.
Intuit specifically recommends using the QuickBooks Tool Hub and Database Server Manager when troubleshooting H202.
Check the Hosting Computer
The computer that stores the QuickBooks company file is the host or server. Other computers accessing that file are workstations.
Make sure the company file is stored on the intended server and that the server is available on the network.
If you use a third-party hosting provider rather than your own Windows server, Intuit recommends contacting that hosting provider for assistance.
Use QuickBooks Tool Hub
Intuit's QuickBooks Tool Hub includes specific tools for network-related errors such as H202. The current Intuit guidance directs users to the Network Issues section of the Tool Hub.
On the server computer:
Close QuickBooks on the affected computers.
Open the QuickBooks Tool Hub.
Select Network Issues.
Open QuickBooks Database Server Manager.
Select the company-file folder and choose Start Scan.
If the folder is not listed, browse to its location and start the scan.
Intuit says the Database Server Manager can automatically repair certain firewall permissions during this process.
Check QuickBooks Database Server Manager
QuickBooks Database Server Manager is responsible for managing access to company files in a multi-user environment.
Make sure the appropriate Database Server Manager is installed on the server for the QuickBooks version you use. Intuit also notes that the server can use either the full QuickBooks Desktop installation with Database Server Manager or a server-only installation.
