Quentin Geczy

Medical Student

Quentin Geczy is based in London, where he initially attended Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. After completing his studies at Yale, he continued his academic journey at the University of Sydney Medical School, where he spent two years. He plans to complete his medical studies closer to home in Europe. Alongside his medical ambitions, he is pursuing entrepreneurial ventures in consulting and finance, focusing on healthcare.

While working through the medical school application process, Quentin has remained deeply involved in health and education. He runs a private education business, supporting students in STEM subjects and assisting them with university admissions. He is also developing an online company that provides educational courses and materials tailored to students preparing for UK high school exams (GCSEs, A-Levels), medical exams (BMAT, UCAT, GAMSAT, MCAT), and the SAT.

Academic Background

After completing his high school education in Australia, he moved to the United States in 2016 to pursue his interests in science and economics. He earned his Bachelor's in Molecular Cellular Development Biology (MCDB) and Economics from Yale University. Quentin delved into macro and microeconomics, finance, and accounting throughout his economics studies. Additionally, he gained experience working with large datasets using R and applied theoretical models to address complex qualitative and quantitative issues. This combination of knowledge sharpened his ability to analyze complex systems and understand resource management, decision-making, and human behavior.

Quentin’s studies in MCDB were an extension of his pre-med coursework. For his thesis, he explored the "Psychedelic Renaissance in Psychiatry," investigating how the 5-HT2A receptor interacts with serotonergic psychedelics to promote neuroplasticity. These findings have been instrumental in recent advances in treating mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, addiction, and PTSD.

Quentin's multidisciplinary education in Economics and MCDB gave him a solid foundation for modern medicine. His training in evidence-based clinical reasoning, public health, and effective communication of complex ideas has been invaluable. This diverse background allows him to approach problems from multiple perspectives, a key skill for success in today’s ever-changing healthcare landscape.

In addition to his academic achievements, Quentin also excelled in athletics. He was a Division I Varsity Athlete and earned recognition as a Lightweight Crew Eastern Sprints Champion. He also placed second at the USA U23 Lightweight Men’s Quad National Team Selection Regatta. Juggling rigorous athletic training with his academic commitments taught him invaluable discipline, teamwork, resilience, and leadership lessons.

His Pursuit of Medicine

Quentin Geczy’s desire to pursue a medical career has been a lifelong goal. At the age of thirteen, he suffered a fractured femur in a cycling accident, which required a lengthy rehabilitation process. This experience exposed him to the profound impact of orthopedic care, sparking his interest in healthcare. Over the years, he faced several additional health challenges, including a serious cycling accident that resulted in a subdural hematoma, cervical spine fractures, and severe dental trauma. Although these injuries ended his athletic career, they deepened his fascination with the human body and the medical professionals who guided him through his recovery.

After graduating from Yale, Quentin attended the University of Sydney Medical School, which is recognized as one of the top 20 medical schools globally. His clinical interests focused on Orthopedic Surgery, Cardiothoracic Surgery, and General Surgery, all influenced by his academic studies and personal health experiences.

During his two years at Sydney, Quentin completed all the required coursework and wrote his MD thesis, “Demographic and Clinical Features of Patients Diagnosed with Achalasia.” His clinical rotations occurred at Royal North Shore Hospital, where he gained exposure to multiple specialties across hospital and community settings.

His Psychiatry & Addiction Medicine rotation provided experience in consultation-liaison psychiatry, inpatient mental health care, and treatment for drug and alcohol addiction. Additionally, he received critical care training in emergency medicine, anesthetics, trauma response, and intensive care. Quentin also participated in hands-on training in pulmonology, urology, neurosurgery, and general surgery. His general practice rotations gave him insight into patient history-taking, physical examinations, and day-to-day clinical duties. He also gained interdisciplinary experience in pharmacy, physiotherapy, speech pathology, podiatry, psychology, and acupuncture.

Quentin was a published volunteer researcher at Sydney Musculoskeletal Health, part of the Kolling Institute. He co-authored two articles: "What is the most effective and safest Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug for treating osteoarthritis in patients with comorbidities?" and "Appraisal of Quality and Analysis of the Similarities and Differences between Osteoarthritis Clinical Practice Guideline Recommendations: A systematic review."

Quentin’s clinical experiences also include work at the private clinic of Dr. Keith Bush in London, the Royal Melbourne Hospital, and the Diakonissenkrankenhaus in Germany, further expanding his clinical expertise.

Quentin’s Private Tutoring and Education Consultancy Business

Quentin has tutored biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics students for five years. He has worked with gifted students preparing for the Biology & Chemistry Olympiads and helped many students prepare for various exams. He has also assisted student-athletes with the complex recruitment process for US Division I colleges, guiding them through school selection, cover letter writing, and application essays. Within six months, his business had built a client base of 30 clients, and he has maintained strong relationships with them as they successfully gained admission to their universities.

Multilingual and Passionate About Health

Fluent in English, French, and German, Quentin holds citizenship in the United Kingdom, the United States, and Germany. In addition to his academic and professional pursuits, he is dedicated to staying active and healthy. He enjoys cycling, running, swimming, and skiing, all of which help him maintain his physical and mental well-being.

Quentin Geczy’s extensive education in medicine and business and his passion for healthcare, education, and entrepreneurship make him a well-rounded individual.
