As a queer woman of color, I have witnessed firsthand the mistreatment and misunderstanding that many in the LGBTQ+ community endure. Too often, we are unfairly labeled as mentally unwell simply for existing authentically and embracing our identities. This harmful narrative not only invalidates our experiences but also discourages many from seeking the support and affirmation they deserve. The struggle for acceptance goes beyond personal identity—it is a fight against deeply ingrained societal biases that continue to stigmatize queer individuals. By sharing my perspective and advocating for change, I hope to challenge these misconceptions, foster greater understanding, and create spaces where all queer people feel safe, valued, and empowered to live their truth. For this blog, I have chosen to remain anonymous to focus on the message rather than the messenger.
