This archive is a collection of books, fanfiction, and movies based on or adapted from any of Jane Austen's works that can be labeled as "queer."
"Queer" is being used broadly to mean non-normative in terms of behaviors and identity categories such as gender, sexuality, and much more. The idea behind this definition of "queer" is that the adaptations in this collection defy norms associated with Austen's early 19th-century novels, such as adhering to a strict gender binary, compulsory heterosexuality, and other strictures that indicate how people must live in order to be accepted into society.
The items in this archive were gathered by *students in Dr. Misty Krueger's spring 2025 "Queer Austen" Honors course at the University of Maine at Farmington (UMF). Some of the pieces in this collection were written by those students, too.
This website was created by Asher Marks in July 2025 during their time in the Upward Bound program, and continued by Jasper Lawler in their senior year at UMF throughout a semester work experience of Fall 2025. It will be maintained thereafter by Misty Krueger. The archive is a work-in-progress, so please contact misty.krueger@maine.edu to share works that are not listed on this site so that they can be added.
