Semester Reflection
From my first day at LSU until now, I’ve definitely learned a lot and grown in many ways. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that it’s okay not to have everything figured out right away. Life isn’t always going to go as planned, and that’s fine. When it comes to dealing with failures and setbacks, I’ve learned to never give up. Persistence is key; you have to keep trying until you get it right, no matter how many times you fail along the way.
Something I’m particularly proud of from the past semester is how much I’ve opened up and become more social. I used to be more of a "fly on the wall" in social situations, but now I feel more confident in engaging with others and building connections. This has really helped me grow, not only as a student but as a person, and I’m excited to continue pushing myself out of my comfort zone in the semesters to come.
If I could share advice with an incoming student, I would tell them that college life is a lot different from high school. In college, the level of independence and responsibility increases significantly, and it’s important to adapt quickly. One of the biggest things I’ve learned is that you cannot afford to slack off or turn in assignments late. I’d also tell them to be proactive about seeking help when needed—whether it’s from professors, academic advisors, or tutors because in college, you’re expected to take charge of your own learning.
Future Impact
To enhance my college experience, I plan on applying for internships throughout my time at LSU. I chose this because internships will provide me with hands-on experience in the fashion industry, which is essential for building a strong foundation for my career as a fashion designer. Gaining practical exposure to the design process, production, and overall business of fashion will help me develop a deeper understanding of the industry, making me a more skilled and versatile designer. Additionally, internships offer invaluable opportunities to work alongside professionals who can mentor me and help refine my design skills. By immersing myself in real-world projects, I will be able to apply what I’ve learned in the classroom while also gaining insights that can’t be taught in a lecture. Networking is another key benefit—internships will allow me to build connections with industry professionals, which could open doors for future job opportunities or collaborations.
