I am looking into getting a PS4 emulator on the steam deck so I can finally try Bloodborne. Have any of you installed a specific emulator for PS4 yet? If so, which one? I was doing some googling and I see Orbital, Spine, and a few others. Just wanted to know if anyone here has more experience with PS4 emulation before I start downloading random files...

A few days ago, Spine released a new build and has gotten very remarkable progress, not only can the emulator now boot commercial software, a few games have been marked as semi playable with some graphics or sound issues.

A lot of early generations of emulators also require firmware/bios dumps, and even high-accuracy emulators of 16-bit consoles like the SNES require the firmware dumps of the expansion chips to actually emulate it accurately.

In recent years, there have been "randomizer" mods for a few SNES games that reasonably operate under the same legal justification, you still need to dump the rom yourself and modify the rom yourself, just like with translation patches. Anyone under the age of 30 likely has no way of acquiring an original SNES and the cart (most carts on eBay are counterfeit (repro) flash carts, and not legit) so you can safely bet anyone playing a translated game on an emulator, almost certainly stole it.

Hence the problem with the Wii/WiiU/PS3/PS4/Xbox360/XboxOne emulators is that you need to get the digital games off the physical units before their firmware gets patched. You can't simply plug in your external drive from the console into the PC.

Nintendo uses emulators on the Switch, they have not, ever, recompiled SNES games and such to work on the Switch, and the NES/SNES mini's were nothing more than crappy linux-based emulator boxes with a driver to use the controllers.

1) I want to play/watch/read the thing for free. Which is 99% of pirates, guaranteed. These are people who buy flash carts and "moddable" game consoles with the intent of playing pirated games on them. The PC emulator the holy grail, because they don't need to pay for anything.

@Kisai while I think that is fair enough as a general class... with arguably the most successful emulator of all time (Dolphin), I would strongly suggest the primary benefits on that particular console are for 'restoration of no-longer functioning services' and 'increased audio/visual fidelity'.

Notice, however, that if you have a 64 bit machine and you choose to grab one of the AUR versions, PCSXR will be compiled to 64 bit architecture, rendering it incompatible with the vast majority of the plugins, which are 32bit only. If you intend to use any plugins other than the ones that come with the emulator, you should install the 32 bit package lib32-pcsxrAUR.

The bios dump must be put into the ~/.pcsxr/bios/ directory. PCSXR can also emulate an internal bios, but it is not compatible with all games and presents issues. PCSXR provides an incomplete compatibility list on their site.

BIOS dumps contain intellectual property therefore it is illegal to distribute them without consent from the manufacturer. My guess is that most developers do not want to include any intellectual property in their emulators. It is the same reason why you won't find emulators being distributed with game ROMs.

PCSX is a free and open-source console emulator which allows software designed to be used with the PlayStation to run on personal computer. Over the years, development changed hands several times with PCSX-Reloaded now being the main version.

\u201CAny emulator is supposed to be to be able to run your games. Imagine that your favourite game is removed from PSN (e.g. PT), or you just haven\u2019t access to your ps4 with TV just now, but you have PC and you just want to play a game that you already have bout. Of course you will think about an emulator. We cannot estimate anything just because every team member has work/family/hobbies and it is not full time work. We do it because it\u2019s interesting for us.\u201D

\u201CDolphin is very focused on emulation accuracy but has been neglecting the other layers of an emulator, like these things that I've been working on (I've been reworking audio output and input in the past, and still got a lot left there to do). I like things that are technically correct and it feels kinda wrong to play games with completely random colors the devs never meant for them\u2026

If you've already copied your ROMs over to Batocera and would like to cut down in a simpler manner, you can use tools that can be run inside of Batocera such as andrebrait's 1g1r-romset-generator instead. Just follow the instructions from its Getting Started guide, installing the script to a folder in Batocera's network share and running the commands via SSH. It's also possible to do batch gamelist editing with ARRM or RobG66's Gamelist Manager.

The roms/ folder contains all the folders for all the systems available on your platform. Adding more folders will not add the system to Batocera; if the folder for that system isn't there then the emulator for that system is not present on your platform.

When installing your own ROMs, make sure that you have them in a suitable format for the emulators you are going to use. For example, if you want to add a NES ROM, make sure that your ROM file extension is listed in the roms/nes/_info.txt file. For this particular system, acceptable ROM formats are .7z .nes .zip, so an acceptable game would be beans.nes. You have one _info.txt file in each ROM system directory by default. New _info.txt files are added as new systems become available. Descriptive names for each system can be found on the system page.

When multiple emulators are available for the one system, but not all of them accept the same ROM formats, you'll get prompted with a message telling you that your ROM might not be used with the emulator selected when you try to launch a game in an incompatible format. Most of the time, at least. If not sure, refer to the aforementioned _info.txt file.

PCSX Reloaded is a Playstation One emulator for Windows that lets you enjoy the huge catalogue of one of the most beloved video game consoles in history. Titles like Crash Bandicoot, Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy VII, and Suikoden 2 are totally compatible with this emulator.

Legal attention was drawn to emulations with the release of UltraHLE, an emulator for the Nintendo 64 released in 1999 while the Nintendo 64 was still Nintendo's primary console - its next console, the GameCube, would not be released until 2001. UltraHLE was the first emulator to be released for a current console, and it was seen to have some effect on Nintendo 64 sales, though to what degree compared with diminishing sales on the aging consoles was not clear. Nintendo pursued legal action to stop the emulator project, and while the original authors ceased development, the project continued by others who had gotten the source code. Since then, Nintendo has generally taken the lead in actions against emulation projects or distributions of emulated games from their consoles compared to other console or arcade manufacturers.[6]

This rise in popularity opened the door to foreign video games, and exposed North American gamers to Nintendo's censorship policies. This rapid growth in the development of emulators in turn fed the growth of the ROM hacking and fan-translation. The release of projects such as RPGe's English language translation of Final Fantasy V drew even more users into the emulation scene.[8] Additionally, the development of some emulators has contributed to improved resources for homebrew software development for certain consoles, such as was the case with VisualBoyAdvance, a Game Boy Advance emulator that was noted by author Casey O'Donnell as having contributed to the development of tools for the console that were seen as superior to even those provided by Nintendo, so much so that even some licensed game developers used the tools to develop games for the console.[9] be457b7860
