Track: Quality Aspects in Cloud-based Platforms and Services

The QUATIC track on Quality Aspects in Cloud-based Platforms and Services aims to bring together researchers from Academia with the aim of sharing new ideas and present research on the state of the art in testing cloud-native applications, or leveraging cloud services for quality testing in some way, including, testing in the cloud, testing for the cloud, and testing of the cloud.

One of the key properties of cloud technologies is their promise for scalability and resilience, along with the ability to use many services provided and managed by cloud providers. Those properties pose a big challenge when it comes to testing. On one side, cloud-based applications might need to test for resiliency and scalability. On the other side, testing tools need to be brought to the cloud, and they also need to be aware of the cloud in order to assess the quality of the application.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Testing in the cloud
  • Testing for the cloud
  • Testing of the cloud
  • Configuration management in testing
  • Performance testing of scalable applications
  • Security testing in cloud-native applications
  • Functional testing of cloud-native applications
  • Test architectures for cloud-based testing
  • Chaos engineering in testing
  • Test orchestration for complex testing suites
  • Test services

Track Committee

Track Co-chairs:

  • Francisco Gortázar, Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, Spain
  • Hui Song, SINTEF, Norway

Program Committee members:

Francisco Gortázar

Francisco Gortázar holds a PhD on Computer Science. He is Associate Professor at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, with more than 15 years of experience teaching and researching. He has been involved in several national and international projects, and he is currently coordinating the ElasTest H2020 project. He has authored more than 30 papers on journals and conferences. His main research interest is testing of complex distributed systems. He has been involved in testing complex open source applications like Kurento and OpenVidu, and he works partially as a consultant on CI/CD and testing in software companies.

Hui Song

Hui is currently research Scientist at SINTEF ICT, Oslo, Norway. His research is focused on leveraging model-driven approaches to support dynamic adaptive systems at runtime. He investigates modelling techniques including language engineering, model transformation, and constraint solving, in order to support dynamic adaptation for cloud-based applications, middleware platforms, and cyber-physical systems.

He received his PhD in January 2012 from Peking University, China, and worked as visiting student for half a year in 2008 at NII, the National Institute of Informatics, Tokyo, Japan. Before joining SINTEF, he worked as a PostDoc Research Fellow from 2012 to 2013 with Lero, the Irish Software Engineering Research Centre, at Trinity College Dublin.
