Personal Response

From my personal experience so far, I have grown to like the quarter system, finding that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. One of the key components of my teaching philosophy was building relationships to better engage students and I noticed within two weeks that we were able to build a stronger rapport than I had in my previous high school practicum. One of the areas I particularly struggle with is timing of tasks, since I am new, I didn't know how long certain items take to complete already, so scaling that planning up is sometimes tricky.

I acknowledge that there is still a lot of improvements to be made to ensure better student success, both on a teacher and school wide level. I think one of the biggest components that would help are specific workshops or conversations related to success in a quarter system. In addition, there needs to be a more standardized approach to collection of survey data and achievement results over the course of a few years.
