Research Opportunities: Labo 6, Labo 7 & Licenciatura Thesis
The Quantum Photonics Laboratory (IFIBA-CONICET) is currently seeking motivated undergraduate physics students to join our ongoing research lines. Our projects offer a comprehensive training environment that bridges cutting-edge experimental optics with advanced data science pipelines.
Project Title:
Integration of Unsupervised Machine Learning Algorithms for the Optimization of Fluidic Lenses
Director: Dra. Graciana Puentes (gpuentes@df.uba.ar)
Location: Laboratorio de Fotónica Cuántica (IFIBA-CONICET)
Framework: This project is fully funded by active grants (PICT STARTUP and UBACyT PDE) and builds upon our patented adaptive fluidic lens prototype (AR 109794B1).
Project Overview
The research focuses on the experimental characterization of optical wavefront aberrations transmitted by fluidic lenses using a Shack-Hartmann sensor. Due to the high dimensionality of Zernike coefficient datasets, students will implement multivariate statistical methods and unsupervised machine learning architectures to reduce dimensionality and optimize prototype performance.
Students will gain hands-on experience in:
Experimental Photonics: Optical alignment, wavefront sensing calibration, and automated data acquisition.
Data Science & ML: Implementing PCA, Factor Analysis, Hierarchical Clustering, K-means, and Self-Organizing Maps (SOM) using Python and MATLAB platforms.
