ISLAMIC CALLIGRAPHY
This is a modern take on calligraphy of a sura that is very close to my heart.
First word that was revealed to our prophet (S.A.W.) was IQRA which means to read and the ayah further says “read ‘o prophet’ in the name of your lord who created”. The beauty of our religion is signified by this word that the first word ALLAH revealed to us was IQRA signifying us the importance to study, to attain knowledge, to look around us with eyes, hearts and mind open, and explore what is in this world for us. This is the very first sura that i memorized too therefore this has a special place in my heart too.
I have used some bright acrylic colors in putting together this calligraphy. The following painting has some color transitioning technique to it and few modelling paste strokes to guide the way.
The following calligraphy is painted using acrylic colors and is inspired by the art in muslim religious places such as mosques and tombs.
The paining provided here is my take on 'kun faya kun' . On a plain black background I have given some color to it using a copper paint with multiple eye catching brush strokes.
AL-MUQATTAAT
Alif Laam Meem, Yaseen, Ha-meem, etc. are known as Al-Muqattaat, i.e. the abbreviated letters. There are 29 letters in the Arabic Alphabet (if hamza and alif are considered as two letters) and there are 29 surahs i.e. chapters in the Glorious Qur’an that have the abbreviated letters prefixed to them.
