This team is a brainstorming process used to generate recommendations for the teacher and/or parent/guardian concerns. Recommendations are unique to the individual and vary based on the student's needs.
An SST is formed when the coordinator receives a referral form from a parent or teacher, and they are concerned that their student is struggling in the general education classroom, whether with academics, behavior, or social-emotionally.
The SST process supports general education teachers as they work with struggling students to identify their needs prior to a referral for evaluation of more specialized instructional supports.
The team consists of:
Parent
Student (if age appropriate)
SST coordinator
Administrator
Teacher familiar with intervention best practices
Student's general education teacher
Other staff, as appropriate
