1. Introduction
Thank you for using QR & Barcode Scanner ("the App"). This Privacy Policy explains what information the App collects, how it is used, and your rights as a user. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices. By downloading or using the App, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Data Stored Locally on Your Device
The App stores the following data only on your device. This data is never transmitted to our servers:
Scan history — QR codes and barcodes you scan are saved in local storage on your device.
App settings — Your preferences such as theme, haptic feedback, and safe browsing settings are saved locally.
Notes — Any notes you add to scan results are stored locally.
2.2 Data We Do NOT Collect
We do not collect, store, or transmit:
Personal information (name, email address, phone number)
Location data or GPS coordinates
Device identifiers (IMEI, advertising ID)
Usage analytics or crash reports
3. Permissions Used
Camera — Required to scan QR codes and barcodes in real time. Camera data is processed entirely on your device using Google ML Kit. No images or video are stored, uploaded, or shared.
Internet — Used for the following optional features only:
Safe URL Checking: Scanned URLs may be checked against Google Safe Browsing API to warn you about malicious links. Only the URL is sent.
Product Lookup: Scanned EAN/UPC barcodes may be looked up via UPCitemdb's public API to show product information.
Advertisements: Google AdMob serves ads. See Section 5.
Both Safe URL Checking and Product Lookup can be disabled in Settings.
Storage/Media — Requested only when you use "Export CSV" or "Save QR Image." No files are written without your explicit action.
Contacts — Requested only when you choose "Save to Contacts" after scanning a vCard QR code. We do not read your existing contacts.
Vibration — Used for haptic feedback on successful scans. No data is collected.
4. How We Use Your Data
All data collected is used solely to provide the App's features. Scan history is displayed in the History screen for your reference. No data is sold, rented, or shared with third parties for marketing.
5. Third-Party Services
Google AdMob — We use Google AdMob to display advertisements. AdMob may collect device identifiers and usage data to serve personalised ads. You can opt out in your device settings under Google → Ads → Opt out of Ads Personalisation. Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
Google Safe Browsing API — When Safe URL Checking is enabled, scanned URLs are sent to Google's Safe Browsing API to check for malware and phishing. Only the URL is transmitted.
UPCitemdb — When Product Lookup is used, scanned barcodes are sent to UPCitemdb's public API to retrieve product information. Privacy Policy: https://www.upcitemdb.com/privacy
Google Play Billing — In-app purchases are processed by Google Play. We do not receive or store payment information. Terms: https://play.google.com/about/play-terms/
6. Data Retention and Deletion
All scan history is stored locally on your device. You can delete your scan history at any time via Settings → Reset Scan Counter or History → Clear All. Uninstalling the App permanently deletes all locally stored data. We do not retain any data on our servers because we do not collect data on our servers.
7. Children's Privacy
The App does not knowingly collect data from children under 13 years of age. The App contains no account creation, social features, or direct marketing to children. If you believe a child has used this App, please contact us at anuraggulerria@gmail.com.
8. Data Security
Since all data is stored locally on your device, it is protected by your device's built-in security (screen lock, encryption). We do not transmit personal data, so there is no risk of a data breach on our end.
9. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:
Access — All your data is visible in the History screen.
Delete — Remove all data via the Clear History option.
Opt out — Disable optional features (Safe Browsing, Product Lookup) in Settings.
Opt out of personalised ads — Via your device's Google settings at https://adssettings.google.com/
10. Advertising
The App displays advertisements provided by Google AdMob. These ads help keep the App free. You can remove all ads by purchasing QR Scanner Pro (one-time purchase of $2.99). Google AdMob may use cookies and device identifiers to show relevant ads.
11. In-App Purchases
The App offers an optional one-time purchase called QR Scanner Pro ($2.99). Purchases are processed entirely by Google Play. We do not receive, store, or process any payment information.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
