BOX, A STAGE FOR ALL

CITY THEATER, NEW HAVEN, CT

2021.2. - 2021.5., ADVANCED STUDIO 2021 SPRING, SARA CAPLES, EVERADO JEFFERSON, GEORGE KNIGHT

INDIVIDUAL WORK

The scheme proposes a "stage for the city": the two main stages in the building could potentially be merged together and even opened up visually towards the surrounding urban public space. The internal operable partition walls and the external operable panels allow numerous possibilities in the theatrical settings both in, and potentially "out" of the architecture itself. The overall composition and massing configuration is based on the structure cores as anchors that follows the two directions of the twisted grid in the larger urban context, and volumes are arranged and sculptured accordingly to address the movement and interaction of different scales in the urban environment.
