Discourse
"Drifting" is an important process in the evolution of life and the search for new habitats. It allows species to travel long distances with the help of ocean currents, land on unfamiliar shores, and have the possibility of reproducing new life in a foreign land.
However, with the advent of the Anthropocene, human civilization has become a significant force dominating the environment. Human-induced climate change affects the intensity and frequency of extreme weather events, leading to the frequent occurrence of natural disasters and exacerbating species extinction. If the environmental degradation is irreversible, perhaps only species that can quickly adapt to the environment can win in this increasingly severe natural selection and become the dominators of the next era.
In this case, "SeaDrift: Eternal Migration" was born as a speculative experiment in permanent migration. By releasing our electronic device, we attempt to create a hypothetical species that can travel on ocean currents, and rapidly adapt, evolve and thrive in the extreme environment of the future. Our seed will continuously transmit signals through iridium satellites, showing the environmental data and path detected along the way, which will be combined with the existing creature’s big data and future environmental prediction for data analysis, finally presenting an imaginary species in the end-of-days world.
“SeaDrift: Eternal Migration” attempts to explore the situation of life in the contemporary ecological crisis through the endless extension of "drifting," the drifting seed as a survivor of the end-of-days generation, and the "variation" that occurs in adapting to the environment, intertwined with wandering, observation, and bold speculation.
