Download the following two files, of which the first one is the driver installer, and the second one is for update. Note that, the firmware is installed within the MADIface instead of the PC, so It cannot be found on the machine unless the MADIface is connected and switched on.
Unzip driver_madiface_win_09540.zip and install it first, MADIface does not need to be connected. Note, TotalMix FX is the only software that controls MADIface, it is automatically installed after the previous step.Then connect MADIface, unzip fut_madiface_win.zip and run the update (If needed).
After installation, the following two icons show up. The first one is the MADIface setup, and the second one is TotalMix FX.
** The first test-----hardware playback
Connect two microphones to the frontal XLR/TRS interface and plug in the earphone (1/4” jack). Add 48 V phantom power from Total Mix, and feed the microphone input to the earphone. This can be done via the hardware inputs in the first row and the hardware outputs in the third row. Then we can monitor the microphone recordings live. Note that, de-active the phantom power before switching the device off, to avoid any potential damage to the microphones.
** The second test----software playback
First register MADIface I/Os we need to use to the OS. This can be done from the MADIface setup icon (mentioned earlier). For instance, we choose Multi-Channel and in the configuration we choose the following I/Os (check the same for the Speaker tab next to the WDM Devices tab).
After that, from Control Panel---Sound, we can find the MADIface choices for both Playback and Recording tabs.
Start Audacity and test the recording first.
Choose the MADIface Microphones and start recording.
Then test playback.
Import a stereo sound to Audacity and choose some MADIface device, and then play the sound.
In TotalMix, feed the above selected software playback to the MADIface earphone for monitoring.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t get Audacity work with more than two channels.
Start Cubase Elements 8 with an empty project and choose the driver via Devices---Device setup
From the Devices---Device setup----ASIO MADIface USB, it can be noticed that most I/Os are still inactive.
Then add these I/Os (bus) by Devices---VST Connections. To make things easier, remove the existing ones, i.e. stereo MADI 1 (1) and MADI 2 (1), and add, e.g. 6 mono buses. Repeat this process for both Inputs and Outputs tabs. After that, from Devices---Device setup----ASIO MADIface USB, 6 active I/Os are shown.
Import 6 audio tracks. And for each track, set a different bus
Now play the multi-channel audio, and the following is shown in TotalMix.
