Our JSPS-NSFC joint proposal "Groundwater Depletion in Northern China Plain" has been approved! This is a good starting point to examine how effectively my groundwater model can address real-world societal challenges.

I was invited to give a lecture about my research to Kawagoe Girls' High School students in Saitama, Japan. The preparation was a stressful but rewarding process, as it pushed me to think deeply what true values my research can provide to our society. In the meanwhile, I had to think carefully about what things I hope myself to know when I was in my high school 15 years ago. Doing education is such a great responsibility.
Nevertheless, I was satisfied with what I presented at the end and impressed by all the positive feedbacks from the students.
I envy them for their passionate and energetic young minds.

I've been chosen as one of the five "Excellent Author Program" awardees again this year (2nd Quarter). It took almost two years to publish the paper "Global Optimization of Soil Texture Maps from Satellite-Observed Drydowns and Its Implementation in Noah-MP Land Surface Model", but the effort finally paid off.

During my stay at Utrecht University, I gave two talks about my H08-MODFLOW coupling work. I am happy to see more and more people interested in the large-scale groundwater modeling, and appreciate all the beneficial feedbacks from different perspectives. Special thanks to Dr. Edwin Sutanudjaja for hosting me, and Dr. Inge de Graaf for organizing the special seminar.

I was invited to join the 9th GEWEX-OSC Early Career Researcher Workshop with 50 young researchers from more than 30 countries. I am very honored and happy to join the discussion on topic of "Extremes in the water cycle and risks to society: Understanding ‘actionable’ information in hydroclimate research". A white paper will be published based on the discussion. (Below photo: I am the third one from left, second row)

My proposal "Development of a coupled H08-MODFLOW model for a better understanding of human-water interactions" for Japan Society for Promotion of Science (JSPS) has been approved (115 awarded from 918 global applicants). I will shift my role as a JSPS postdoc research fellow starting from April 01, 2024.
