About me

My name is Qian He. I am the Vice-Chancellor Assistant Professor of Sociology at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. I was previously a postdoctoral research associate at the Center on Contemporary China, Princeton University. I obtained my Ph.D. in sociology from the Department of Sociology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I received my bachelor's degree in economics (highest academic honor) from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

My research intersects the substantive areas of Social Stratification, International/Internal Migration, Culture, Intergroup Relations, and Contemporary Chinese Society. My current research seeks to understand the disparities in (im)migrants' socioeconomic incorporation, with broader implications for racial-ethnic and cultural stratification. Broadly, I am interested in understanding how intergroup relations structure variations in socioeconomic outcomes and public attitudes.

I primarily study the United States and China.

My work has appeared in Child Development, International Migration Review, Journal of Contemporary China, Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies, Social Psychology Quarterly, Social Science Research, and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS)
