May 25 to 29th, 2026
We started our week with a two-day Biomechanics Workshop led by Dr. Li. The workshop was very interactive, with Dr. Li constantly asking questions and encouraging students to discuss ideas together. Each day was three hours, and each hour we covered a different topic. The topics were static intro to the musculoskeletal system, biomechanics, inverse dynamics, biomechanical application, and various calculations.
The workshop was a great way to get to know other students and to freely ask questions about our curiosities. We all learned a lot and even earned a certification from the school at the end!
Because the biomechanical workshop was only in the mornings, we spent the afternoons meeting with PhD students. On Monday, we met up with some students who will be going to Queen's come September. They had some questions, such as about housing and the cost of living. We also discussed things like the community at Queen's and the various support systems they can reach out to for different needs. On Tuesday, the master's and PhD students had their final presentations and critiques for their projects. The team sat through some of them to observe. We also talked to one master's student in depth about how she had gone into low-income communities to provide art lessons. She taught children how to make paint from common items such as turmeric, indigo, and terracotta, and then asked them to draw different things. Once she had finished the workshops, she studied the children's different perspectives and their drawings. For example, many of the children lived in stacked houses with one room, but when they were asked to draw what a house was, rather than their own, they drew large houses with pointy roofs.
