The Queens College Student Chapter of the Society of American Archivists serves students who are interested in pursuing careers in archives, the preservation of cultural materials, and records management through planning and sponsoring various professional and social programs.

QCSAA events are held with the intention of serving current students and alumni of Queens College Graduate School of Library and Information Studies. If you are part of our wider community, you are welcome to join an event, but please be aware that priority will be given to GSLIS students and alumni.

SAA is hosting a meet & greet event on Zoom on ~FRIDAY THE 13TH~! This is an extremely casual event where we'll introduce ourselves as board members and just hang out. Bring a craft, video game, question, answer, cute pet, or just yourself and bask in the spooky fall vibes with us! (And if you already know us, you're still invited. We just want to hang.)

QCSAA is pleased to announce our first Ask-an-Archivist of the year with Solomon Polshek! He has a unique perspective in archival work and we're excited to share it with y'all. This event will be held via Zoom on November 15th beginning at 6pm. Please RSVP via the link and feel free to invite friends! This event is open to all, with priority given to current GSLIS students and alumni.
The Ask-an-Archivist format is designed to give students a peek into the lives of working archivists of varying backgrounds and experiences. It consists of a short presentation from the speaker detailing their work and history, and then an open Q&A with attendees moderated by a QCSAA board member.

QCSAA Archives Career Panel
Please join QCSAA on November 30th at 7 PM for a careers panel discussion and Q&A! Archivist speakers will share advice and tips for resume building, cover letter writing, and the job interview process. Each brings experience not only in successfully applying to archives-related jobs but also in hiring for those positions. Our speakers come from varied areas of the field including public library, corporate, and radio archives.

Bridget Kavanaugh will be retiring at the end of this year after many years of service to QC GSLIS. The department is throwing a party in her honor on December 15th from 5:30 to 7 PM at Lecture Hall 230 in the Rosenthal Library! If you would like to contribute to a gift for Bridget, please Venmo @James-Lowry-55 or email james.lowry@qc.cuny.edu to make other arrangements. This virtual lecture/workshop will consist of an introduction to book conservation, including an overview of materials and tools, book terminology and examples of common preservation and conservation issues. Participants will learn about the balance between conserving and restoring bound items of historical value. The class will end with multiple hands-on repair techniques.
