Dr. Qiong Cheng worked as a Lecturer and currently she is in the rank of Teaching Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNCC). Prior to working at UNCC, Dr. Cheng had experience in diverse institutions and labs, working as a PostDoc Researcher in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the Center of Computational Science at the University of Miami.
Dr. Cheng's project interest is broad in applying computational and statistical methods to solve problems for scientific and educational domains. The main topic directions of her projects are in two folds: 1) supporting domain users in actionable decision making in complex dynamic interconnected systems and 2) developing practical applications to support and enhance learning and teaching in education, and specifically in CS education. Specifically, her project focus has been in the following areas: 1) DNS: dynamic network systems, with an emphasis on optimization algorithms, graph mining techniques, and their applications in networks and systems biology; 2) ACS: adaptive computer-based systems, providing a framework of automatically semantic aggregation of educational data and resources and developing adaptive learning platforms and tools to support and enhance teaching and learning; 3) CSE: computer science education, focusing on learning theory-guided, workforce-oriented, and technology-enabled teaching and instructions.
