[2420] al-Husayn ibn al-Fadl ibn ‘Umayr

He was al-‘Allaamah (the profoundly knowledgeable individual), al-Mufassir (the renowned scholar of explaining the Qur’aan’s meanings), al-Imaam (the leading scholar of Islaam), al-Lughawee (the scholar of Arabic linguistics) al-Muhaddith (the scholar of hadeeth): Aboo ‘Alee al-Bajalee, al-Koofee then an-Naysaabooree.

He was an outstanding scholar of his era. He was born before 180h.

Al-Haakim said: …If al-Husayn ibn al-Fadl was among Banee Israa’eel, he would certainly be someone mentioned as one of the extraordinary events that occurred among them.

I heard Muhammad ibn Ya‘qoob al-Haafith say, “I have not seen anyone whose Arabic tongue is more impeccable than al-Husayn ibn al-Fadl.”

…al-Haakim also said: I heard Ibraaheem ibn Mudaarib say, “I hear my father say, ‘The knowledge al-Husayn ibn al-Fadl had about the Qur’aan’s meanings was inspiration from Allaah, as it was beyond what a person could be taught.”

…Muhammad ibn Saalih ibn Haani’ stated that al-Husayn passed away in Sha‘baan of the year 282h at the age of 104, and his funeral prayer was led by Muhammad ibn an-Nadr al-Jaaroodee.
