Qantas gift vouchers can be used to book Qantas domestic and international flights, provided the flight departs from Australia.
For example, if you use your frequent flyer points to book a one-way business class trip from Sydney to Hong Kong, you cannot use the travel voucher to book the required one-way Qantas flight from Hong Kong back to Sydney.
You can only use one voucher per booking, but that makes sense if you rely solely on the voucher to waive the booking fee.
Go to the Qantas gift voucher website and click the Buy button.
You can buy Qantas flight vouchers in values from $50 to $2,000.
If you buy a high-priced voucher and use this to buy a fare at a lower price – such as a $1,000 gift voucher against a $300 flight – Qantas will issue you a new voucher worth the difference (in that case, $700).
But if your main goal is to eliminate those pesky credit card booking fees, keep your voucher purchases to a minimum of $50.
You also need to indicate the number of passengers who will be flying on the booking. If you're not sure, it's best to choose 'one passenger' – if two people end up going, you can always make two separate bookings.
The next step is pretty easy; you can enter your own name as the recipient and change it later if necessary.
You need to select an image to create the voucher, and if it's a gift voucher for someone else, you need to add a message and click the Preview button to see how it looks...
Scroll down to click Check and Pay – after confirming the details, paying for your Qantas travel voucher with the correct credit card is of course another opportunity to earn Qantas points.
The final screen shows the unique reference number for your Qantas gift voucher (blacked out here, so you can't go and book a flight with my voucher!) and its expiry date.
To book a flight with your voucher, start by going to the same Qantas gift voucher website and select Redeem instead of Buy.
Note that each voucher expires a year after the date of purchase – so don't forget about it and let the money go to waste!
Gift vouchers purchased on/after 31 March 2018 are valid for three years from the date of issue, regardless of the expiry date shown on the voucher. However, gift vouchers that have:
- issued free of charge to the customer for any reason,
- provided as part of a customer loyalty or employee reward program, or
- supplied as part of a marketing promotion as a bonus to the purchase of goods or services
are not subject to a three-year expiry period and will have the expiry period advertised in relation to the relevant gift voucher at the time it is issued.
If the full balance of the voucher is not redeemed in one transaction and the voucher balance is more than $2, a new voucher with the same expiry date will be issued for the unused portion. No subsequent vouchers will be issued for amounts of $2 or less.
Redeemable for one-way or return Qantas domestic or international flights departing from Australia only.
Non-refundable and cannot be used for multi-city, Classic Flight Rewards or Reward Points Plus - Flight bookings or redeemed for cash or other goods or services such as baggage selection or additional seats.
Only one voucher can be redeemed per booking.
Amounts are in Australian dollars and are valid for bookings made on or before three years from the date of issue, regardless of the expiry date shown on the voucher.
If the booking amount exceeds the value of the voucher, immediate payment of the balance will be required at the time of booking.
The name of the voucher recipient can be changed when you redeem the voucher.
Conditions of Carriage and related fare conditions apply to all bookings made with vouchers.
Any subsequent vouchers will be sent to the email address supplied for the first adult listed on the voucher. If no email address is provided for the first adult listed on the voucher, subsequent vouchers will be sent to the email address of the person purchasing the voucher.
The number of people in the reservation redeeming the voucher must be the same as the number of voucher recipients. The number of recipients listed cannot be changed.
Vouchers can be redeemed online at Manage Booking or through a Qantas office. Booking fees apply for redemptions through Qantas offices.
It is a condition of sale that gift vouchers may not be purchased or offered for resale without permission on third party websites. If a gift voucher is used in breach of these terms, it may be canceled without refund.
If Qantas suspects any fraud in relation to a gift voucher, we may refuse to honor the voucher until we are satisfied that no fraud has occurred.
The voucher will be valid for 12 months from the date of issue and must be redeemed before the expiry date shown on the voucher.
