Qantas Carry-On Baggage
Qantas passengers are allowed to carry cabin baggage on their flights, however, the allowance depends on the class of service booked and whether they are traveling on a domestic or international flight.
For international flights, the carry-on allowance is based on the class you are flying in. For First Economy, Business and Premium you are allowed one 115cm bag which cannot exceed the dimensions of 56cm x 36cm x 23cm and the weight cannot exceed 10kg. Or you can use 2 x 105cm bags that cannot exceed the dimensions of 48cm x 34cm x 23cm and the total weight does not exceed 14 kg.
Alternatively, you can bring 1 x 105cm bag which cannot exceed the dimensions of 48cm x 34cm x 23cm and 1 x 185cm non-rigid suitcase which cannot exceed the dimensions of 60cm x 11cm x 114cm. These two pieces together cannot exceed 14kg.
Economy passengers are entitled to carry one bag measuring 115cm which cannot exceed the dimensions of 56cm x 36cm x 23cm and weigh more than 7kg. Or they can bring a 185cm non-rigid suitcase that cannot exceed the dimensions of 60cm x 11cm x 114cm and weigh more than 7kg.
In addition to your carry-on baggage allowance, you may also bring one small personal item such as a handbag, laptop*, coat, small camera, reading material or a small number of duty-free items (if allowed).

Qantas Carry-On Musical Instruments
You can bring up a musical instrument in its hard leather case that weighs no more than 7kg and does not exceed the maximum dimensions for a musical instrument which is 142cm = 85cm x 34cm x 23cm. It must be placed in the upper locker.
If the total dimensions are 105 cm or less, then it will be equivalent to a 105 cm bag, using carry-on luggage measurements. If the total dimensions are between 105cm and 142cm then it will be considered equivalent to a 115cm bag using carry-on luggage measurements.
Please remember to measure your musical instrument before checking in at the airport. Small musical instruments, such as violins, usually fit into the musical instrument allowance. Larger musical instruments, such as guitars, do not fit into the musical instrument allowance and must be checked in. Alternatively, you can purchase an extra seat and carry it as a bulky item as outlined below.
It is recommended that you arrive promptly to board your flight to ensure that you can safely place your musical instrument in the overhead locker.
Qantas Carry-On Bulky Items
Large items can be carried in the cabin (except on the Dash 8 service) but they must not exceed 7 kg and if the dimensions exceed the maximum specified in the table below, you will be required to purchase an additional seat.
Examples of bulky items include diplomatic or courier bags, larger musical instruments (eg cellos), works of art or technical equipment.
