The only issue I'm having is that every few weeks or so, a notification pops up about updating the firmware on the device. It doesn't immediately interrupt the app running but after a few days of no one accepting/declining the firmware download, the app crashes.

I'm a little confused by your reply because I did perform a factory reset, reconfigured the wifi following the APP for Nighthawk on my tablet and the APP went through the Firmware Update steps. So by sitting here following the Nighthawk app you say I'VE corrupted the firmware? Please let me know how that could have occurred. The app indicated when finished that every thing was complete and that a reboot of the device would be automatically accomplished. Following the reboot it has entered its current power light flashing situation. It has never come back on. So please let me know how I have corrupted the firmware by following the app directions and just selecting NEXT, NEXT, NEXT as it went through its machinations?

Have you by chance tried rebooting your phone? I have seen this make a difference with some firmware updates. Something weird like a memory leak issue causing a conflict in some cases.
