# Privacy Policy for PyMentor
**Last Updated:** [7-10-2026]
Thank you for using PyMentor ("the App," "we," "our," or "us"). PyMentor is an educational app designed to teach Python programming through interactive modules, a built-in compiler, examples, and quizzes. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App collects, how it is used, and your rights regarding that information.
By using PyMentor, you agree to the terms described in this Privacy Policy.
---
## 1. Information We Collect
### 1.1 Information You Provide
- **Name:** When you first open the App, we ask for your name so the App can personalize your learning experience (e.g., greetings, progress tracking).
This information is stored **locally on your device only**. It is **not** transmitted to us, to any server, or to any third party.
### 1.2 App Usage Data (Stored Locally)
To support your learning experience, PyMentor stores the following on your device only:
- Progress through modules, examples, and quizzes
- Streak counts (consecutive days of activity)
- Experience points (EXP) and level progress
- Code you write and run in the built-in compiler
- Quiz scores and answers
**None of this data is sent over the internet, uploaded to a server, or shared with us.** It exists solely on your device and is lost if you uninstall the App or clear its data.
### 1.3 Information Collected by Third-Party Services (Advertising)
PyMentor uses **Google AdMob** to display advertisements. Unlike the data described above, AdMob operates over the internet and may collect certain information automatically, including:
- Advertising ID / device identifiers
- IP address and approximate location
- Device information (model, operating system, language settings)
- Ad interaction data (impressions, clicks)
This data is collected and processed by Google, not by PyMentor directly. We do not have access to or control over this data beyond enabling the AdMob SDK. Google's use of this data is governed by [Google's Privacy Policy](https://policies.google.com/privacy) and, where applicable, [Google's Partner Policy](https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites).
You can review or adjust ad personalization settings through your device's ad settings (e.g., Android Settings → Google → Ads).
---
## 2. How We Use Information
- The **name** you provide is used only to personalize the in-app experience and is never used for any other purpose.
- **Local progress data** (streaks, EXP, quiz results, code history) is used only to power the App's features on your own device.
- **Advertising data** collected by AdMob is used by Google to serve and measure ads, and is subject to Google's own policies, not ours.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes, because we do not collect or hold that data ourselves.
---
## 3. Children's Privacy
PyMentor is intended for a general, global audience and is not specifically directed at children under 13 (or the relevant age of digital consent in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children beyond the locally-stored name field described above. Because AdMob may serve ads, parents/guardians of younger learners should be aware that Google's advertising practices may apply — see Section 1.3.
---
## 4. Data Storage and Security
- All personal and progress data (name, streaks, EXP, quiz history, code) is stored **locally on your device** using standard secure app storage methods.
- We do not operate servers that store your personal data, so there is no central database of user information for us to protect or that could be breached on our end.
- Uninstalling the App or clearing its data/cache will permanently delete this locally stored information.
---
## 5. Your Rights
Since PyMentor does not collect or store your personal data on any server, most data rights (access, correction, deletion) are already in your control — you can view, reset, or delete your data at any time by clearing the App's data or uninstalling it.
For data collected by AdMob (Section 1.3), you may have rights under laws such as the **GDPR** (if you are in the EU/EEA) or the **CCPA** (if you are a California resident), including the right to opt out of personalized advertising. These requests should be directed to Google, as they are the data controller for that information.
---
## 6. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example as the App adds new features (such as additional programs/examples in future updates). Any changes will be reflected by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy. Continued use of the App after changes means you accept the revised policy.
