Do I need to install Python?

Only if you want to modify the code. Executable files are provided for convenience (no python installation is required).

Why is the application slow to start?

One reason is that some libraries have to be unpacked to a temporary directory before the application can start. This should only take a few seconds.

A second reason is linked to virus protection software and is currently under investigation.
