Purpose
The Puʻuwaʻawaʻa Advisory Council (PAC) was formed in June 2002 to function in a consultative capacity with the Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) staff involved in planning efforts for Puʻuwaʻawaʻa. The PAC is comprised of community members who represent a wide range of expertise and interests in the various components and actions proposed in the 2003 Management Plan for the Ahupuaʻa of Puuʻwaʻawaʻa and the Makai Lands of Puʻuanahulu.
The purpose of the quarterly meetings are to update the Puʻuwaʻawaʻa Advisory Council (PAC) on the current education, research, and management efforts in the Puʻuwaʻawaʻa ahupuaʻa, Forest Reserve, and Hawaiʻi Experimental Tropical Forest, and to solicit advice and expertise on current and proposed management actions.
Mission
The mission is pulled from DLNR’s Division of Forestry and Wildlife: "to responsibly manage and protect watersheds, native ecosystems, and cultural resources and provide outdoor recreation and sustainable forest products opportunities, while facilitating partnerships, community involvement and education. Mālama i ka ‘āina."
HETF Webinar Series
The original HETF seminar series transformed into a webinar series in 2020 during the pandemic as a way for researchers to fulfill a permit condition, requiring HETF researchers to “give back to the community”. Moving to a virtual platform has allowed for a broader number of participants to attend.
If you would like to receive invitations to register for the monthly 2023 webinars, please email SM.FS.hetf@usda.gov stating your interest. To stay up-to-date with our most recent webinar, down below is a YouTube playlist of all of our webinars including presentations from 2020.
