Jean has enjoyed drawing and painting all her life, but didn’t take it seriously until she moved to the west coast of Wales in 1999. There, she started to paint landscapes in watercolours or pastels and often did commissions for the holidaymakers who came to the area. In 2014 she moved to Plymouth and joined the Plymouth Watercolour Society and a couple of other art groups.
At the present Jean paints mainly in oils or acrylics. She finds watercolours challenging, but enjoys doing watercolour sketches in her holiday diaries. She exhibits regularly with the PWS, at the Trinity Art Exhibition and with the Drawn to the Valley group of artists. She held a solo Exhibition in Devonport Guildhall just before lockdown 1 in March 2020.

Jenny Hart has always loved painting, experimenting with a variety of media and styles at different times in life, usually to capture happy memories or glimpses of natural beauty. Now retired, she sells her paintings to raise money for charity. She supports several local charities but purchasers are very welcome to nominate a charity of their choice!
The first four paintings below illustrate loose watercolour with pencil or pen; the last two show a more stylised approach.

Rob has been a member of the PWS for some time. Starting with watercolour, he has also tried acrylics, especially for portraits.
Acrylic. Paula, the tutor of a drumming class, seen by Rob as a deeply spiritual and giving person. He was able to put in a symbolic theme to the painting, which represented this.

I resumed painting on my return to the UK after many years abroad. I was encouraged by my friend and neighbour in South Wales, John Selway, a renowned Welsh artist, who regrettably died in 2017. He said something like, the only thing that prevents your ability is your imagination. I’m still trying not to paint what I see. “Vigilant imagination”.
Watercolour 50 x 40cm. Dec 2010 framed. I lived about 10 miles from Big Pit, World Heritage Centre, visiting many times each year, and frequently during the winter when covered in deep snow at +300m, taking loads of photos for reference. Hopefully this is what it may have looked like in 1900. £180
Watercolour 40 x 29cm. June 2020 framed. I was attracted by a photo of the bridge cables, and perspective, and thought it would look nice with a sunset. £150
Florence Duomo... Watercolour, pen and ink 37 x 30cm. May 2019 framed. Having taken hundreds of photos during visits to Florence, I had to reference stock photos to find several that would be ideal for pen and ink. £150
Watercolour 30 x 20cm. 2018 framed. I painted some later Japanese prints in the 80's but this one went missing - possibly during one of many home moves? Someone who liked later Japanese prints remember it, so painter another, for them, must admit my eyes must have been allot better in the 80’s. Sold.
Watercolour 40 x 28cm. Nov. 2019 framed. I was given the challenge to paint a watercolour from an original oil painting, glazing in reverse with masking! Not for sale.
Watercolour 51 x 41cm. May 2020 framed. Painted using several of my photos and a previous painting of Vicars’ Close, messing with unnatural light. £205
When I left school I went to the Croydon Art School to do a year’s diploma course. When I finished that course I decided that I didn’t want to pursue art as a career, but preferred to keep it as a hobby instead. I love the medium of watercolour as it’s so challenging and you can never pre-determine how your painting will turn out, which is great fun.

I studied Textile Design at university but my real love is painting in acrylics. I have exhibited locally and nationally and have designed a Christmas card for a well known Animal charity. I paint a lot of commissions of dogs and occasionally people! I now sell all my paintings for charity as they are all struggling at the moment.
