Dear Prestonwood Montessori Families,
As the season of gratitude begins, we want to take a moment to recognize the challenges many families continue to face. Our Prestonwood community is a village, and together, we want to make sure every child and family feels cared for and supported.
If your family could use a little extra help this season, please reach out. The PTO and school have resources available, including the Wolf Den Pantry (food, hygiene, and uniforms) and our Angel Tree Holiday Program, both of which help ensure that every child is fed, clothed, and celebrated during the holiday season. You'll also find a list of local food pantries below.
For questions or assistance, please contact PTO President Sheri Axe at sheri.axe07@gmail.com or our campus Parent Support Specialist Cristina Cendejas at ccendejas@dallasisd.org.
With gratitude and care,
Your Prestonwood Montessori PTO

🕊️ Grace, Courtesy & Gratitude
As the season of giving thanks begins, children learn that kindness, respect, and gratitude can be part of everyday life — in the classroom, at home, and in their community. Practicing the Montessori principles of grace and courtesy helps them build empathy, confidence, and connection with others.
Primary (Pre-K 3, Pre-K 4, Kinder)
Model and practice polite greetings, sharing, and saying “thank you.” 💬 Invite your child to help set the table 🥣 or deliver a small note of thanks to a neighbor. These little acts nurture independence and thoughtfulness.
Lower Elementary (1st–3rd)
Encourage your child to notice moments of kindness — when someone shares, helps, or includes another. 💕 Keep a small “gratitude jar” 🏺 and write down one thankful thought each day to read together at week’s end.
Upper Elementary (4th–6th)
Challenge students to plan or participate in an act of service, such as donating to a local drive 🥫 or helping a younger sibling or classmate. Their growing sense of responsibility and empathy helps them see how their actions shape the world 🌎 around them.

🌟 Featured Event: Trunk or Treat
Our Prestonwood parking lot transformed into a festive fall wonderland for our annual Trunk or Treat! Families enjoyed candy-filled trunks hosted by classes and school groups, fun games, hay rides, coloring, and even a temporary tattoo artist. The candy was donated by our generous families and fed to our famous Candy Monster before being handed out to eager Pups! To keep the reading spirit going after our Read-A-Thon, we welcome Dallas Public Library, who helped families sign up for 30 new library cards on the spot. Food trucks served up tasty treats — and gave back a portion of sales to support our PTO. What a howling good time for our entire school community!

✨ Volunteers of the Month
Andi Vuksanovic brought energy and support with Teacher Appreciation to remind our staff just how valued they are... and trust us, they felt it. That kind of care ripples through our whole school.
Brad Parker went all in for Trunk or Treat... from loading hay at the crack of dawn to driving the hayride on repeat… in the rain… for our kids. All free of charge. That’s heart. That’s community.
When parents and caregivers show up, our school feels it.
If you’ve been thinking, “I’d love to help but I’m not sure where to start,” this is your nudge. We’d love to have you! There’s room for every kind of helper here. Come build memories with us!
✨ National Principals Month
October was National Principals Month, and our PTO was proud to show some love to our amazing leaders! In celebration of Principal Toole and Assistant Principal Low, we treated them to a special lunch to thank them for their dedication, leadership, and the countless ways they support our students, staff, and families every day. Their guidance helps make Prestonwood a place where our Pups learn, grow, and thrive—thank you for all you do!
✨ Custodian Appreciation Day
Thank you to Mr. Smith, Mr. Reyes, Ms. Adolpha, Ms. Adriana, Ms. Maria, Ms. Sherry, Ms. Jada, and Ms. Ashley for being a such big reason that our schools are so great! This incredible team keeps our entire campus sparkling, Prestonwood and Walker, and meets the needs of over 1100 students and staff every day. We were so happy to gift each of them $50 for Custodian Appreciation Day.
Prestonwood Pups + Walker Timberwolves = Wolfpack Magic
Our Wolfpack spans Pre-K 3 through 8th grade, all led by Principal Toole, and our vision is to see Pups, Timberwolves, families, and staff coming together to learn, play, and grow as a united community. Every shared moment sets the stage for new adventures as our Pups grow into confident Timberwolves. Don’t miss these highlights from recent events with our amazing middle school, E.D. Walker!
To learn more about E.D. Walker, check out the Walker Wolfpack Update.

🎉 W.T. White Homecoming & Feeder Pattern Community Pep Rally
What a night! The Prestonwood PTO joined forces with the Walker PTA for the W.T. White Homecoming Community Pep Rally at Loos Stadium, where Pups, Timberwolves, and the whole Wolfpack showed up in full spirit. We shared a booth, handed out goodies, and cheered on amazing performances while soaking in all the music, games, and community fun!
🏈 E.D. Walker Feeder Pattern & Homecoming Week
Our students brought the Wolfpack pride all week long! Prestonwood’s 6th graders joined Walker’s Homecoming dress days and Fall Festival, while all of our elementary Pups got into the game for free with their school shirts and participated in the tunnel run and joined the cheerleaders on the sidelines. Because most 6th graders in Dallas ISD are now fully in elementary school, our students have a truly rare experience—sharing a campus with Walker lets them enjoy the best of both worlds as they bridge from elementary to middle school!
☕ Prestonwood & Walker Coffee with the Counselors
Parents and caregivers started their morning with coffee, pastries, and great conversation at Coffee with the Counselors! Prestonwood’s Ms. Litton and Walker’s Ms. Turner and Mr. Williams shared insights into the counseling program—including guidance lessons, student support, mental health referrals, and college, career, and military readiness. They also walked families through how the district’s counseling framework aligns with state standards to support every student’s growth and well-being. The morning wrapped up with thoughtful questions and an open dialogue that left everyone feeling more connected and informed.

A little fuel goes a long way in supporting the hard work they do to bring creativity, care, and excellence into every classroom. We’re so grateful for our dedicated educators — and for the PTO members and families who make these treats possible!
🏈 Community Support - Promotional Materials
Our booth at the W.T. White Homecoming Community Pep Rally was bursting with Wolfpack pride! Thanks to PTO funds, we handed out clappers, mini foam fingers, and footballs to fans of all ages—helping our Prestonwood and Walker families cheer louder and prouder together.

🎃 Community Support: Trunk or Treat
🍬 Staff Support - Staff Halloween Treats
The Prestonwood PTO and Walker PTA joined forces to spread a little Halloween cheer across our shared campus! Together, we provided festive treats and goodies to all staff at both schools — a small way to say thank you for everything they do to support our students every day.
🥏 Student Support - Recess Equipment
Thanks to last year’s fundraising and your incredible support, we’re bringing exciting new play equipment to campus! Students helped choose a brand-new playset, made possible by $48,00 in PTO-raised funds, a $25,000 grant, and $27,000 in installation support from Dallas ISD. Because we came in under budget, we’re also adding fresh fun for every recess area—from frisbees and volleyball nets to sensory play and balance structures. Every contribution helped make these playground upgrades possible—thank you for helping our Pups play, explore, and grow!
📢 Your Voice Matters
What is a PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) anyway?
Think of us as the school's hype squad. We're a group of parents/caregivers, teachers, and staff who roll up our sleeves (and sometimes roll out the merch tables) to make sure PWM students have the best experience possible. From fundraising to family fun nights, enrichment programs to school-wide events—we're the bridge between home and school.
Why join the PTO?
Because kids do better when their grown-ups get involved. Research shows that parent/caregiver involvement boosts grades, social skills, and behavior. Translation: when you show up, your kid shines a little brighter.
The fine print (spoiler: it's good news).
Membership is free and open to all! We do suggest a $10 donation per member to help us hit our fundraising goals, but it’s totally optional—think of it as “pay what you can.”
Sign up today and help make this our best year yet!
