A Note to Parents of Toddlers...

We know your little ones might not be able to sit still for the video lesson or do all the activities planned for each week. We want to encourage you to read the story together and sing the worship song. If there is an activity that you feel will be engaging for your child, enjoy it together! There is no pressure to do it all. Every moment you spend talking to your child about who Jesus is and how much he loves us is time well spent.

Watch the video of part 2 or read part 2 (pages 8-21) of "Jesus and the Very Big Surprise".

Check out the video for lesson 2

Today we learned that Jesus often taught with Parables - a simple story with a big lesson.

Continue talking at home...

Read the parable: Luke 12:35-38

· What did the king in the parable do that was surprising?

· Last week we learned that Jesus is our KING. Do you think He served people like the king in the parable did?

· The people were waiting and excited for their KING. What is something you have had to wait for?

Jesus recognized our need - that because we are sinners, we were sentenced to death, a
separation from God eternally; and out of love for us, HE came and died in our place. He defeated sin and death for us!
He served us by rescuing us!
When we choose to follow Jesus, we choose to be like Him.
Jesus loved and served - How can you love and serve like Jesus?

Continue talking as a family...

· How did the girl in the video love and serve others?

· When we love and serve we are being generous. As a family, how can you love and serve your neighbors? How can you be generous?

Worship Songs: I Wanna Be Like Jesus & Alive

Sensory Play/Table Setting - Gather play dishes and sponges for younger children. Allow kids to stand at the sink or play with a water bucket outside and “clean” the dirty dishes. Have older children practice setting the table for dinner this week. Use the table setting place mat.

As all children play, remind them how busy the servants would have been as they continued to do their jobs and prepare for their master’s return. How surprised would they have been when the master came home and wanted to serve them instead?

Waiting Games - Choose a waiting game to play as a family such as: Red Light, Green Light, Mother May I, Simon Says or Duck, Duck Goose. After playing the game, have children discuss how they felt as they had to wait their turn. How do you think the servants felt waiting each day for their master to return? Would it be easy to do a day’s worth of work and also continue to prepare for the master’s return?

Jesus Color by Number - Complete the color by number page with crayons, markers, or sidewalk chalk. Talk about how Jesus surprised everyone when he came to serve others. Are there other ways you can think of that Jesus served? Have you read about when he fed fish and bread to thousands or washed the feet of his disciples during the Lord’s Supper? Jesus came not to be served, but to serve others!
