This first spreadsheet collects all of the data about the Player Safety Committee decisions and disciplinary actions. I try to catalogue exactly what language is used in the press releases, which is why some of the columns look duplicated- one column is for the exact language, the other is cleaned up so I can visualize it more neatly. Each tab hosts a different visualization:
Team Pie Chart shows the breakdown of how many teams have been on the receiving end of a disciplinary decision.
Team V Team Vis shows the interaction of which teams were on the giving vs receiving end of plays that were deemed dangerous.
Disciplinary Outcome by Rule shows the outcome according to which rule violation was specified in the press release, if any.
This spreadsheet keeps track of every penalty assessed in the games, pulled directly from the official PWHL game report published after the game. I also categorized the penalties according to the rulebook, which you can see in the Key To Penalty Categories sheet.Â
Rivalry Heat Maps keeps track of penalties by team matchup- rows are which team took the penalties, columns are who they were playing against. It also shows the average penalties per game for each matchup.
Penalty Category Breakdown shows a pie chart of all penalties according to their categories.
Penalty Categories by Team shows each team's respective breakdown of penalties taken according to the category of penalty.
Penalty Types by Team breaks it down into individual penalties and maps the most common penalties taken, divided out by team. This one isn't perfect because the penalties are listed oddly and I haven't had a chance to clean them up yet, but I'm working on it.
Home vs Away Penalties tracks number of penalties taken by each team at home vs away games, including the takeover tour games.
