Pleasant Valley Wrestling Club
2025-2026 Season Information
The Pleasant Valley Wrestling Club (PVWC) is more than just a wrestling club—it's a place where young athletes build skills, confidence, and friendships that last a lifetime. Designed for boys and girls ages 4 years old through 8th grade, our program helps young athletes grow into confident, disciplined, and respectful individuals—both on the mat and in everyday life.
We strive to foster a safe, supportive environment where wrestlers of all skill levels can grow physically, mentally, and emotionally. PVWC has a long history of preparing wrestlers for success at the junior high, high school, and even state levels.
Beyond wrestling, PVWC emphasizes discipline, accountability and sportsmanship. These traits carry into school, relationships, and other sports, helping shape well-rounded young people.

Athlete Expectations:
Commitment: Wrestlers are expected to attend practices regularly, be punctual, and put forth their best effort.
Respect: All athletes should show respect to coaches, teammates, and opponents, both on and off the mat.
Sportsmanship: Win or lose, it’s important to demonstrate good sportsmanship and encourage teammates.
Parent Expectations:
Support: Parents are encouraged to support their children by attending practices and competitions, providing encouragement, and fostering a positive attitude.
Volunteering: We ask parents to assist with club events, tournaments, and fundraising efforts. Your involvement is key to the success of the club.
Communication: Please communicate any concerns or scheduling conflicts with coaches in advance.
Equipment
Competition Singlet: Singlets are not required but are strongly recommended for competitions. It's a great way to visually represent PVWC as a team.
The cost to rent Singlets is $60. Singlets returned at the end of the wrestling season will get a $50 refund. (Singlets not returned by banquet or the last scheduled season event will result in a deposit forfeit.)
Singlets can be purchased through our singlet committee. Start by visiting our Rental Program tab to fill our the order form.
Headgear: Headgear is strongly recommended, but not required at practice. Headgear may be required at some tournaments.
Shoes: Wrestlers should wear wrestling shoes. Wrestlers will not be permitted to practice without shoes. No “street” shoes are to be worn on the wrestling mats by wrestlers or parents.
PVWC offers a shoe rental program. Contact Brett Nielsen or submit a request form here to rent shoes for the season. Shoe rental fees are as follows: $50 shoe rental. Upon return of shoes you will receive a $30 refund.
Practice Attire: Shorts and t-shirts are recommended. All apparel must be clean at the start of practice. No clothing with snaps, buttons or zippers will be permitted.
Safety Policies
Fingernails: Fingernails must be trimmed short enough that they will not scratch other wrestlers.
Jewelry: No jewelry is permitted at any time. This includes rings, watches, earrings, necklaces and bracelets. Medic alert bracelets are permitted if they remain covered with tape.
Personal Hygiene: Each wrestler should shower immediately following each practice or competition. This is key to keeping skin diseases at bay.
Skin Infections: The wrestling mats are disinfected daily. This combined with each wrestler showering immediately after practice greatly reduces the likelihood of spreading any skin conditions. If your child shows any signs of skin irritation please see one of the coaches.
*If your child is showing symptoms of any skin condition, coaches will ask them to sit out of practice until healed or released with an Iowa High School Skin Condition Report form signed by a doctor. Form can be found here.
Injuries: Most injuries in wrestling practice will be minor (scratches, bloody nose). In the event of a more severe injury the coach will first check if a parent is present. If a parent is not present, the coach will act in the best interest of the wrestler.
When Should a Wrestler Begin Competing?
At Pleasant Valley Wrestling Club, we believe that competition should be a positive and growth-focused experience. For that reason, the decision to begin competing is ultimately up to the wrestler and their parent or guardian. If you’re unsure whether your wrestler is ready, our coaches are more than happy to discuss your child’s progress and make recommendations based on their skill development, focus, and comfort level in practice.
When Are Tournaments?
Our club is committed to providing plenty of competition opportunities for our athletes. Tournaments typically run every weekend from mid-October through March. Please keep an eye on the events calendar and our Facebook page for these opportunities.
Official Club Tournaments: There are several local tournaments hosted by various wrestling clubs around the region. You can see what tournaments are available by clicking on the "Schedule" tab.
PVWC hosts one official club tournament during the season, the Spartan Valley Open. We encourage high participation in this tournament so that we can proudly represent Pleasant Valley on the mat.
**We ask that each family works a minimum of one shift at this tournament. This is a tournament with 400+ wrestlers and it cannot be successful without everyone pitching in.**
AAU District & State Tournaments: These are major competitions, with the District Tournament serving as the State Qualifier.
Tournament Coaching
We strive to have coaches at as many local tournaments as possible to provide support and guidance. Coaches will be happy to assist and coach your wrestler when they are available.
To ensure your wrestler has a coach in their corner, please make sure they are wearing their PVWC singlet and notify the coaches when your wrestler is about to compete. Our coaches tend to keep a close eye on all of our athletes, but a quick heads-up will help ensure they’re ready to assist when needed.
