P.V.D.T. College of Education for Women started as a department in S.N.D.T. Arts College, Mumbai, in 1951. But in 1959 it was converted into a full fledge college with Marathi Medium and Gujarati Media B. Ed. Classes. Since then the College has been actively engaged in the teacher training programme. Today, the College has five distinct thrusts. First, to equip the student teachers with respect to effective classroom teaching practices. Second, to equip the student teachers with respect to the latest developments in the field of education. Third, to organize training programmes with respect to new trends in education for the teachers/ teacher educators/ college teachers. Forth, to develop instructional materials for the benefit of the teaching community. Fifth, to organize need-based seminars, conferences, and workshops for student teachers, teachers, and teacher educators for improvement of the quality of teaching.
The college has two classes for the first year of B.Ed with Three Mediums i.e. Marathi, Hindi and English and the same in the Second year also. There are 50 students in each class who are admitted through the centralized admission procedure of the Government of Maharashtra. The college is situated on the third floor of the main building of the University. The college is fully equipped with respect to teaching, non-teaching staff, Library facilities, computer facilities etc.
There are 40 secondary schools which are used for practice teaching and internship programmes. These schools are spread all over Mumbai. It is because of excellent cooperation from these schools, the student teachers get substantial and effective experience during the practice teaching and internship programmes. The faculty of our college is fully qualified with research oriented.
The college has various committees for coordinating and monitoring mechanisms of the college smoothly. Such as Planning, Time table, co-curricular, admission, medical checkup, internal assessment, magazine, Library maintenance, grievance redressal cell, Anti-ragging committee, computer lab etc.
Various activities are conducted in the college such as Theory lectures, Seminars, workshops, demonstrations, tutorials, education visits, psychology experiments, ICT projects, experiments in science, work experience, practices teaching in various schools etc.
