Welcome to the Annual Horror Story Contest & Candy-Thon

Every year, the 2-D Design students from PVCC’s Art Department join forces with PVCC's Creative Writing Club to celebrate great original scary stories and art made from candy. The art students design several pieces that reflect and honor the Mexican holiday, Día de los Muertos or Day of the Dead. After the students make the art, we invite the entire college to admire it, then take handfuls of the candy to enjoy while listening to the winning stories from the 600-Word Horror Story Contest. Though the pandemic prevents us from meeting in person this year, the show must go on! Thus, we bring to you, in digital form, the winners of the Creative Writing Club’s 2020 600-Word Horror Story Contest and a celebration of previous year’s candy murals.

The winners this year are:

First Place: “Sleep Paralysis,” Karissa Stevey

Second Place: “The Necromancer,” Nathaniel Fraticelli

Third Place: “Mosquito Bites,” Hazel Rose Hubbard

Honorable Mentions:

“Eat, Love, Praying Mantis,” Kit Decker

“The Bleeding Portrait,” Hannah Dietzel

“Eggs and Then Toast,” Sarah Gressett

So please enjoy the scary stories and marvel at the wonderful pictures from past Candy-Thons.

Happy Reading, Happy Day of the Dead and Happy Halloween.

Stay safe!
