About The Murphman
I’m The Murphman: a disabled combat veteran, educator, comedian, and podcast host with one mission: to turn life’s toughest transitions into unforgettable conversations.
Since age 19, psychology has been my calling. For nearly four decades, I've worked across the spectrum of mental health and human services—from group homes to counseling adults and at-risk youth. That hands-on experience laid the foundation for my 25-year career as a psychology educator, where I’ve helped students build emotional intelligence, critical thinking, and real-world decision-making skills.
My journey began in the U.S. Army, serving as a Behavioral Science Specialist in Somalia. That chapter taught me the power of mental resilience and the complexity of human behavior under pressure—insights I’ve carried into every classroom, comedy stage, and podcast episode since.
Off the clock, I bring the same energy to trivia nights, football broadcasts, and the stage—where storytelling meets sharp wit and cinematic flair.
But Hot Takes With the Murphman is more than just a show. It’s personal. After losing my wife to breast cancer, I became a single father navigating the complexities of high school and college prep with my son. That journey—full of heartbreak, grit, and growth—became the heartbeat of this podcast.
Every episode blends pop culture, psychology, and raw storytelling to help listeners find clarity, courage, and connection. I’m not claiming to be an expert. I’m just a guy who’s been in the trenches—helping students, raising a kid, and calling out the nonsense when I see it. (My son? Recruited as a junior, now studying Computer Science with a Cybersecurity focus. So yeah, I’ve got thoughts.)
If you’re looking for meaningful conversations that challenge conventional wisdom—or just need a laugh while sorting through life’s chaos—you’re in the right place.
Tune in every week to catch the latest Hot Takes With The Murphman.
