Nebulae
Nebulae are extremely large collections of gas (often hydrogen) and dust. Sometimes, they are illuminated by ionizing radiation from nearby stars. The dust composing these systems often condenses to form stars.
Galaxies
Galaxies are organized collections of stars, dark matter, and other materials that are thought to orbit black holes. There are a variety of galaxy shapes described by the Hubble Tuning Fork.
Star Clusters
Star clusters are loosely bound collections of stars and dark matter. A particular type of star cluster, the globular cluster, has a high star density and tends to have a circular shape.
Planets & Solar System
Planets are some of the most stunning and easily located objects for night sky viewing. A developing field in astronomy involves the search for exoplanets - planets outside the solar system.
Skyscape
Earth's night sky is a reflection of its complex atmosphere as much as it is the universe itself.
