Hi, I’m Punya Plaban Satpathy, a mathematician specializing in the geometry and analysis of locally symmetric spaces associated with finite-dimensional Lie groups and affine Kac–Moody (loop) groups. I completed my Ph.D. in Mathematics at the University of Michigan in 2020 under the supervision of Professor Lizhen Ji. From 2021 to 2023, I was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Alberta, working with Professor Manish M. Patnaik. In early 2025, I was a Visitor at the School of Mathematical Sciences, NISER Bhubaneswar. Since August 2025, I have been a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Institute of Mathematics and Applications, Bhubaneswar.
Before graduate school, I earned my BS-MS dual degree in Mathematics from the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Pune in 2014.
My research focuses on compactification techniques for arithmetic quotients of loop groups and the study of scattering geodesics and their higher-dimensional analogs on locally symmetric spaces.
