More Than Music. It’s a PULSE.

Reimagined in 2022 under the direction of musician and educator Khuent Rose, PULSE Steel is a Brooklyn-based steel orchestra bringing a fresh, contemporary energy to the sound and culture of steelpan.

Made up of talented young musicians, PULSE blends the unmistakable sound of the steelpan with influences from Caribbean music, Afrobeat, Pop, Hip-Hop, and beyond. Our performances honor the instrument’s Trinidadian roots while showing just how dynamic, versatile, and relevant pan continues to be today.

Our Story

PULSE was built on more than performance. It was created as a space for young people to connect, create, grow, and belong.

Many of our musicians began their journey with PULSE as students at Achievement First Brooklyn High School. What developed was a community united by music—one where discipline meets creativity, individuality strengthens the ensemble, and every player contributes to the sound.

Under Khuent Rose’s leadership, PULSE has continued to evolve beyond its beginnings, challenging its musicians, expanding its repertoire, and bringing steelpan to new audiences and spaces.

Born in Trinidad and Tobago, the steelpan emerged from generations of creativity, resilience, and cultural expression. Today, it is the national instrument of Trinidad and Tobago and a sound recognized around the world.

We honor the history behind the instrument while giving a new generation the freedom to explore what comes next. From Caribbean classics to contemporary hits, our music reflects both where pan comes from and where it can go.
