 The Heartbeat of Our Music

The steel pan, an instrument synonymous with joy and cultural heritage, has its roots deeply embedded in the rich history of Trinidad and Tobago. Born out of resilience and creativity, the steel pan emerged in the early 20th century when inventive musicians transformed discarded oil drums into instruments capable of producing a wide range of tones and harmonies. This innovative art form quickly became a symbol of Trinidadian identity and pride, captivating audiences around the world with its distinctive sound.

 Our Story

PULSE Steel is composed of talented students and athletes from Achievement First Brooklyn High School. Each member of our band brings a unique story and a shared passion for music. For these young musicians, the steel pan is more than just an instrument; it is a powerful escape from the pressures of daily life and a source of solace and expression. Through music, they find a way to alleviate stress and connect with one another, creating a supportive community where everyone can thrive.

 Under the expert guidance of Khuent Rose, our director who is renowned for his musical prowess and dedication, the band explores a diverse array of genres, including Afrobeat, Caribbean, Pop, and Hip Hop. This eclectic mix not only showcases the versatility of the steel pan but also reflects the diverse backgrounds and influences of our members.
