On October 29, 2024 at the Multi – Purpose Court of SLSU – Main Campus, Sogod, Southern Leyte, Southern Leyte State University is abuzz with excitement as it launches the highly anticipated University Games 2024 with the theme "Rise as One: Celebrating Unity, Excellence, and Environmental Stewardship in Sports" highlights the significance of collaboration and inclusivity within the sports community. It demonstrates how sports can unite people, transcend barriers, and promote shared values.
Athletes from the six campuses including the delegates from the Maasin City Campus are set to showcase their skills across a range of competitions, including: 3x3 Basketball, Track events featuring Runs and Throws, Beach Volleyball, Table Tennis tournaments, Chess and the Badminton matches.
Southern Leyte State University's 2024 University Games opened with a lavish ceremony attended by prominent university officials, showcasing the school's dedication to both academic and athletic achievement. As a sign of SLSU's togetherness, Dr. Jude A. Duarte, the university's president, announced the U-Games' launch. He expressed his belief that the Mighty Kingfisher can achieve greater success in athletics and encouraged student athletes to show off their skills for the university. Dr. Eda J. Opina, Director for Sports Development and Cultural Affairs; Ms. Claerchille Jhulia Robin Tan, Executive Assistant to the University President; and Mr. Archelis V. Serano, Head of the Sports Development Program, Dr. Constantino Medilo Jr., Vice President for Academic Affairs; and Dr. Annabelle Hufalar, Vice President for Student Auxiliary Services. Joined by campus directors and sports coordinators from all SLSU schools, their attendance showed a common commitment to promoting student participation, sportsmanship, and unity across the institution.
