On August 12, 2024, SLSU Maasin City Campus officially opened for the academic year 2024–2025. The campus was a hive of activity and celebration. In order to make the academic year worthwhile, the faculty, staff, and students treasured the opportunity to welcome new students into the MCC family and accompany them on their trip along the waves the institution will sail.
The faculty, staff, and students of the institution participated in a flag-raising ceremony to formally launch the event. This was followed by a parade of first-year students to greet them to the school. Dr. Frederick C. Aniga, the campus director, greeted everyone and said, "Let's enjoy the endeavors ahead of us! Let's surpass expectations, achieve goals, and promote a safe and educational environment."
As the student organizations and winners were introduced, applause reverberated. The audience was given an introduction to officers from various student organizations, including the Academic Scholars, Student First Aiders, Circle of Public Administration Students (CPAS), Espektro de Orgulyo (EdeO), Peer Facilitators Group, Academic Scholars, Supreme Student Council (SSC), and Junior Social Work Association of the Philippines – SLSU Maasin City Campus Chapter (JSWAP – SLSU MCC). The occasion also featured an award given to Ms. Ailene Opelinia, an institution scholar, for her outstanding academic performance in the previous academic year, in which she graduated with honors. During the activity, Ms. Wama Montesa Condesa, the Ms. SLSU – Maasin City Campus, was also presented. After giving the freshman class a tour of the school, the celebration came to an end with a unity dance.
The start of the academic year was certainly exciting, with everyone thrilled to see old friends and make new ones while experiencing their first day of college life. As this new chapter in MCC history is written, everyone can only hope for the best and continue to live the life of a Mighty Kingfisher, full of energy and prepared for whatever this incredible year has in store.
