Student leaders from the Supreme Student Council of SLSU Maasin City Campus, alongside with the student representatives from Saint Joseph College and The College of Maasin, participated in a Meet and Greet session on November 15, 2024, to discuss plans for an upcoming tree-planting activity. The event, held at Villa Romana Coffee Shop in Maasin City at 5:00 PM, was spearheaded by former Congressman Atty. Roger Mercado and Atty. Vincent Abril Uy Rodas. The gathering aimed to unite young leaders in promoting environmental protection and conservation efforts.
Student leaders are the community's hope, according to Roger Mercado, whose legacy includes supporting environmental efforts. In his speech, he exhorted the attendees to be engaged in promoting sustainability and environmental consciousness. By launching initiatives that safeguard and conserve the environment, Mercado urged the leaders to set an example. "You are the future of our community, and it is your responsibility to ensure the next generation inherits a greener, healthier environment," he stated.
The event gave students a chance to interact with local authorities and exchange ideas about how to deal with environmental issues. Inspired and determined to support the tree-planting campaign, attendees departed with a shared goal of improving environmental preservation in Southern Leyte. With executives such as Atty. Mercado the young leaders taking the step and showed support for the cause, the project is expected to have a long-lasting effect on the ecological health of the neighborhood.
