On April 24, 2024, the SLSU - Maasin City Campus hosted a historic Miting de Avance in a passionate demonstration of democratic fervor, signaling a pivotal moment in the local electoral scene. The university grounds were alive with the excitement of civic involvement as supporters, decked in awe and booming supports, crowded in. A sense of excitement and unity was obvious as contenders for different posts fervently took to the podium, each outlining their goals and assurances to an enthralled audience.
Among the throng of excited faces and the thrill that filled the venue, candidates take advantage of the chance to demonstrate their leadership abilities, explain their policies, and respond to the urgent needs of their colleagues. The Miting de Avance turns into a testing ground where dreams are turned into concrete plans and where voters examine the claims made by each contender with critical eyes. The vibrant student democracy is demonstrated by the way many voices come together to influence the university community's overall course. The candidates under the Leadership with Action, Bravery in Active a Noble – warrior (LABAN) Party , under the names of Wilson G. Lecaros as SSC President candidate, Selene Julliane Tagra as SSC Vice – President candidate, Conrado P. Nalaza Jr., Fiona Denise Bacsebio, Merry Genesis Cantones, Sarah Kaiza Sandig, Jhondy Gelsano, Brylle John Non, Ryan Christopher Escaner, Justin Jay Temporada, Eugene Arcla, Alyssa Marie Benzon, Nicole Ann Cornejo, Paula Krizzia Saga, and John Marlu Gaviola as SSC Senator candidates waved their platforms and aspirations for political will and student service for the incoming academic year. In response to inquiries from the students about their plans and tactics for the upcoming academic year, the candidates also demonstrated a strong sense of resolve and passion.
Beyond the spectacle and thrills, the Miting de Avance emphasizes the significance of moral behavior and responsible citizenship. Candidates are reminded of the need to maintain the values of honesty, decency, and fair play while pursuing success. The election process will continue to be a ray of hope and advancement for the Maasin City campus of Southern Leyte State University thanks to the conduct of the event, which is distinguished by a dedication to transparency, inclusivity, and civility.
