From Reacting to Responding: SLSU MCC Holds Stress Management Seminar for Fourth Year Students
Fourth-year students from the Bachelor of Public Administration (BPA) and Bachelor of Science in Social Work (BSSW) programs took part in a group guidance seminar titled "From Reacting to Responding: Stress Management” on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at the SLSU MCC Audio Visual Room, aimed at helping future graduates better understand and manage stress.
The activity was facilitated the Peer Facilitators of the campus together with Coleen Mercado, RGC, RPm, Guidance Counselor of SLSU–MCC, who served as the resource speaker for the seminar. The session focused on equipping students with practical knowledge and coping strategies as they navigate academic demands, personal pressures, and the transition to professional life.
During the seminar, Mercado discussed stress as a natural part of everyday life, highlighting its common causes and potential effects on mental, emotional, and physical well-being. She emphasized the importance of recognizing stress triggers and shifting from impulsive reactions to more mindful and constructive responses.
Interactive discussions and simple exercises were also introduced to help students manage stress effectively. These activities encouraged self-awareness, emotional regulation, and healthy coping mechanisms that students can apply both in academic settings and in their future careers.
The seminar provided a safe and engaging space for students to reflect on their experiences and share insights, reinforcing the value of mental health care in higher education. Participants expressed appreciation for the practical advice and relatable examples shared throughout the session.
In conclusion, the activity served as a timely and meaningful initiative that underscored the importance of stress management in promoting a healthier mind and emotional well-being. Through guidance, awareness, and practical tools, the seminar empowered graduating students to face challenges with resilience, balance, and confidence.
