On March 7, 2024, the Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) Main Campus was a hive of activity as the prestigious Gandilan Awards event took place at the Multi-purpose Court. The institution's dedication to providing exceptional education and services is demonstrated by this yearly event, which recognizes exceptional staff members for their hard work and contributions to the university. The event was attended by core faculties and staffs of the university and extension campuses, partners from local and international fields, esteemed guests, and media partners.
Emphasizing the Congressman Roger Mercado's representative and Maasin City mayor Nacional V. Mercado's attendance as they accept awards in recognition of their unwavering support for the SLSU Maasin City Campus's plans for the extension campus and settlement for the new campus site. Numerous awards are also given to the faculty and staff of SLSU's Maasin City campus. Dr. Frederick C. Aniga, the campus director, and Maria Estela Roa, the former campus director, are recognized for their dedication to excellence in bringing SLSU's vision, mission, and breakthrough goals to life. Jonathan Palco, Juvenal Sumaya, and Magdaleno Samaco are recognized for their efforts that go above and beyond the call of duty with the Extra Mile Award. The former earned an Extensionist Award, together with Robin Ariel F. Sumaya, Elmee Joy Oraiz, and Rannie Sumacot, for their commitment to using research-based initiatives to positively impact communities and create influence.
Upon the conclusion of the Gandilan Awards, a spirit of unity and appreciation for the outstanding people who personify the essence of SLSU prevailed. The university community as a whole is inspired by their passion, tenacity, and unshakable dedication, which reinforces the institution's goal to promoting excellence in service and education. In addition to honoring the accomplishments of those who receive them, the Gandilan Awards serve as a reminder of the significant influence that one person can have when they pursue excellence in all that they do.
