SLSU-MCC Launches ECOSTEP for a Cleaner Campus
The Southern Leyte State University–Maasin City Campus (SLSU-MCC), through the Supreme Student Council (SSC), successfully conducted ECOSTEP: One Campus, One Clean Future, a campus-wide environmental initiative aimed at promoting cleanliness, discipline, and collective responsibility among students on January 28, 2026 at the SLSU-MCC grounds.
The program officially began at 8:17 AM with an opening prayer, followed by the singing of Lupang Hinirang and the SLSU Hymn, setting a solemn and unified tone for the activity. The event was hosted by Ms. Frolain Calibod, who guided the participants through the program flow and key announcements.
In her welcome message, Ms. Richel Ann Marqueda the SSC treasurer emphasized the importance of environmental stewardship and student cooperation. She also discussed the do’s and don’ts of the activity and clearly presented the assigned cleanup areas of the students, ensuring an organized and effective implementation of ECOSTEP. Each year and section were designated specific locations around the campus, with assigned SSC officers tasked to monitor and assist their respective groups.
At 8:35 AM, the energy of the participants was boosted through a zumba session led by the SSC officers, encouraging physical wellness while fostering enthusiasm and camaraderie among students. This was followed by the Signing of the Commitment Wall at 8:40 AM, where students symbolically pledged their support for maintaining a clean, safe, and sustainable campus environment.
The attendance schedule was strictly observed, with in-attendance recorded from 7:30–8:00 AM and out-attendance from 11:00–11:30 PM, ensuring proper monitoring of participation. Students were also reminded to bring necessary cleaning materials such as trash bags, brooms, and rag cloths, as well as their own snacks and water. Proper attire was required to maintain safety and order during the activity.
During the program, the SSC also took the opportunity to announce upcoming campus activities, including the Valentine’s Day celebration scheduled on February 11, 2026, encouraging students to remain engaged in future SSC-led events.
ECOSTEP highlighted the shared responsibility of the SLSU-MCC community in caring for the environment. More than a cleanup drive, the activity strengthened unity, discipline, and environmental awareness among students, reaffirming the university’s commitment to sustainability and active student involvement in campus development.
