The University Games 2024, themed " Rise as One: Celebrating Unity, Excellence, and Environmental Stewardship in Sports," showcased an impressive array of athletic talent as different SLSU campuses battled for supremacy.
The SLSU-MCC team sought to win in both track and field events, with all out performances from several athletes. John Dickerson Paler skilled the long-distance events, competing fiercely in the 10,000 m, 5,000 m, and 3,000 m races. Cyrax Dalipe displayed remarkable passion in the 100 m and 800 m events, while Benjamin Estas sprinted to skillfully in the 200 m and 400 m.
In the field events, the throwing competitions proved equally thrilling. Christian Clark Avila made a significant impact in both the discus throw and shot put, while Daisy Rey Gilbero and Sophia Marie Calatrava also shone in the discus throw. In Javelin throws, Ken Clive Gagan, Christian Clark Avila, and Aira Castaño wowed the crowd with their impressive throws.
The SLSU-MCC athletes demonstrated exceptional determination and skill, embodying the spirit of the games. Their performances not only highlighted individual talents but also fostered camaraderie among all participants. The opportunity to compete for the SCUAA 2024 might not be the time for the team to experience, their performance has been remarkable and the athletes took the experience as an opportunity for growth and perseverance to come back stronger and more equipped for the next university games reflected a truly igniting a passion for the sports and success.
