The dawn of September 17, 2024, marked the beginning of an exciting day for participants in the much-anticipated Paunhanay 2024 (Fun Run). With the early morning skies serving as the backdrop, the vibrant event kicked off at 5:00 AM with a quick attendance count. The Flying Hawks quickly established their dominance, winning the first challenge of the day – the attendance count.
The event, which gathered the Soaring Falcons, Flying Hawks, and faculty members, was more than just a competition. It was a celebration of unity, strength, and friendly rivalry, emphasized by the warm-up exercises led by the Student Supreme Council officers. After a brief invocation, the Sports and Cultural Coordinator, Mr. Aris Rex Espinas, delivered an inspiring motivational speech, reminding participants to push their limits while enjoying the journey.
The fun run featured five stations strategically located throughout the area, from the Sea Wall to Mercury Drug. Participants tested their endurance and speed as they raced past landmarks such as Rose Bakeshop, EastWest Bank, and Metrobank. Zumba sessions and a cool-down exercise ensured the participants stayed energized throughout the event.
In the end, the Flying Hawks soared higher than their competition, with Charismae Peras and John Dickerson Paler, both from the Flying Hawks, claiming first place in the female and male student categories, respectively.
Reflecting on her victory, Charismae Peras said, "For preparing for this kind of activity, my focus is to ensure proper gear, maintain a balanced diet, and get enough sleep. What motivates me to win this fun run activity is to challenge myself and reach the finish line."
John Dickerson Paler, another first-place finisher, shared, "My preparation involved hard training, and I am grateful to my supporters, my family, and classmates. They are the ones who motivate me to win this race."
The fun run wasn’t just about physical endurance but also about personal growth, perseverance, and community. As the activity ended with an awarding ceremony, the Flying Hawks flew home with well-deserved pride, having shown both determination and camaraderie in this spirited competition.
