Southern Leyte State University-Maasin City Campus (SLSU-MCC) celebrated its students’ day on November 22, 2024, at the university quadrangle, with the theme “ Tomorrow’s Leaders: Honoring National Students’ Day.” This occasion brought together the students, faculty, and staff in a stunning display of fashion and unity.
Ms. Aster Lynn Reoma, Head of Students and Auxiliary Services welcomed attendees, emphasizing the significance of Students’ Day. “This celebration is one of the highlights in a student’s life,” she said. She also stated that, as the theme mentioned, the students are the architects of the future, and we should commit to empowering one another and striving to make a difference.
This is not just for us but also for our motherland—said Mr. Frederick C. Aniga, the father of the campus, our Campus Director, building on Ms. Reoma’s words in his inspirational message. He said that being a student is something to be celebrated for, for it is a privilege. Not everyone can receive such opportunity. “That is why, we should value our being as students,” Mr. Aniga added as he ended his speech.
As those words lingered in our ears, the celebration began with the competitions engaged by the two departments, the Public Administration Department and the Social Work Department. The activities involved the Researchlympics, Quiz Bee, ML Tournament, and the Games of Low. The matches all started at the same time at different venues. The students who were spectating held their breaths as they witnessed the heated play in the ML Tournament and Games of Low. The Researchlympics and Quiz Bee, on the other hand, was secretive since it involves the mind and requires silence to focus.
After a brief interlude to give the students time to prepare for the monochromatic night, twilight transformed the quadrangle. The nightly bodies shone, illuminating the space. The quadrangle came alive with the stunning OOTDs, disregarding the night’s cover. Paired with captivating auras, students confidently strutted their way to the center during the parade of attires. The display left a lasting impression, turning the quadrangle into a dazzling catwalk.
To welcome the evening, Mr. Magdaleno Samaco Jr. Warmly greeted everyone. He expressed his admiration for the work that everyone spent on the successful event. He also highlighted that this celebration is the campus’ recognition of the students, as they are its valued clients. In closing, Mr. Samaco wished everyone an enjoyable evening.
A sumptuous dinner followed. After which, accompanied by a christmas song sung by an SSC Officer; the christmas trees by the CPAS, JSWAP, and faculty and staff brightly lit, softly illuminating the grounds, mesmerizing us all.
Talented performances followed after the lighting of the christmas tree by selected Public Administration and Social Work students. Enticing dances, and charming voices took the stage and entertained everyone, for after their performance is the anticipated announcement of winners from the competition held earlier in the day.
The competition concluded with impressive wins:
Researchlympics: Social Work Department
Quiz Bee: Public Administration Department
Games of Low: Social Work Department
ML Tournament: Social Work Department
Congratulations to the winners!
This magical day started and ended with grace and passion. It strengthened the bond among SLSU-MCC students, faculty, and staff. The monochromatic styles not only displayed creativity in pairing the same colors with different shades together, but also exhibited their individuality and that despite the differences, they are in harmony.
